If thats how selections were made then fair enough,
Though it is not what I was told by someone who was involved.
Selection criteria are clearly somewhat looser these days.
I think that when money is in a central pot it does make a difference; those responsible for the pot have to be able to justify the expenditure.
If it is personal funding then the selectors don't have to be concerned with whether money is being wasted.

selection policies / money aside, there isn't anyone on the list who doesn't deserve to represent GBR at a major international competition. I was actually quite pleased to hear someone wasn't selected as they hadn't performed well enough in selection races (sad for them, but good for the selection process).

selection races for the Europeans were the JK.
A number of those selected were well off the mark

that's certainly one factor, but being regularly at the top of results lists recently helps too. Selections were based on current form where 'The main indicators of ‘Current Form’ will be the sprint, middle and long races at the JK'. i.e. not those races alone
