Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
There is no fuss if all the questions apply to you and your only technical concerns for the JK are terrain, assembly and planning.

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
I support what Freefall has done, even if it might usefully have been tidied up a little. The economic impact (even crudely measured) of our events is crucial for public agency support, and is just as important as the terrain and planning quality.

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
Don't be hard on Freefall or the SOA, they only thought about the questions to ask that could be useful for the future, the actual questionnaire was then set up by British Orienteering as part of their support package.

Really glad to see a constructive (not a Nopesport rant) feedback system put up soon after the event - we need more of these! You do need to be careful when writing them though as it's easy to force people into answering in a way they don't want to. I wonder how a standard survey with tried and tested questions for big events would be perceived?
The biggest issue with this survey though is that it seems you don't have to have been to the JK to fill in the survey, and there is no limit on how many times you can fill it in...

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
Of course it's interesting to get feedback on the specific issues of area and course quality at each day of the last JK, but for me the interesting questions are about what we think JK actually is. In other words, is it all about the high-quality competition (national or international) and high standards, or is it a festival/fun event, where lower standards might be acceptable?
In the survey I scored the day 2 assembly layout as poor, because it was so far from the car park and consequently the weather meant very few people stayed for the prizegiving. But perhaps the assembly had to be there so as not to compromise course quality?
Anyway, it'll be good to see the feedback once it's collected.

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
I will arrange to have the questionnaire closed down fairly soon - maybe about a week's time to allow everyone to have a go. I would have liked some check against multiple form filling but thought when I sent off my draft to BOF they might have incorporated something. I understand we are using a free web tool so maybe there is not the option. I had seen event surveys before including the EKOS Scottish 6 Day and think we ought to have something more standard off-the-shelf to work from.
I have been asked to do a Focus article so that might be the best place to explain why various decisions were made on parking/assembly etc. I will have to tone it down in places because of who might be reading it but always happy to discuss face to face with those who have an interest. As it happens the Day 2 split was largely driven by calving cattle being brought into the fields adjacent to parking. Traders etc were going to be up in assembly but the ground was too boggy/too steep or archaeological sites so we were forced into the car park. Without enquiries/information up on the hill it would just have been a remote finish. Nice view though.

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
When you have multiple audiences (and there are probably at least five for this survey), as I know only too well, it's always difficult to devise a survey that satisfies them all. There may be enough in the economic benefits bit to satisfy potential partners/funders, but probably not enough detail for constructive feedback to those involved in setting and running JK2012, and therefore not enough to advise those involved in forthcoming big events. There is perhaps a case for something a standard feedbackbit more detailed to assist these last two groups.
One question which I think could usefully have been in this survey (and if it was, I missed it) is one along the lines of 'taking everything into account, overall how did you rate JK2012 - brilliant/good/OK/poor/diabolical'. I'm sure all the helpers would like that, as I'm pretty sure the response would have been overwhelmingly positive. Well done guys!

It is a high quality competition - the events are Level A and the JK is the premier UK event. There should be no lowering of standards.
However, it is also a festival, where you need EOD colour coded courses so all the family can join in; there is TrailO too. That is why I put so much effort (as Entries Sec) into making sure that people get their entries, even when they are very late (!) and that they get the start times that suit them and their families.
(There is by the way a lot of feedback from those on this year's team to next year's team, not to mention the Major Event Conference.)

Re: JK2012 Questionnaire
The questionnaire will be closed at 1800 hrs on Sunday - thank you everyone who has completed these despite imperfections. Around 500 responses received so should be some useful info.
If you are not totally bored with JK stuff have a look at the presentation maps I have produced - these are on the JK home page (or http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/jk ... ation-maps). I have done A2 copies and have frames for these. Maybe something similar could be done for future events - happy to email out pdf copies to anyone who wants one so get in touch.
