Shouldn't a World Ranking Event have offset litho printed maps?

the rules say

2.4.1 All maps shall be offset litho printed unless agreed otherwise with Map Group.

do we have a map group at present?

Look at the spiral ramp round the monument at control 76. On Routegadget, it is clear that the lines on the NE/SW sides of the small square to the south of the monument are a bridge symbol, and the lines on the NW/SE sides are a dotted underpass symbol. On the printed map, because laser printing breaks up obliquely orientated lines, it is hard to differentiate any of the 4 lines. I know of one person who failed to realize they could go down from the monument and went back up losing a great deal of time.

I too lost a few seconds going back up (slightly) here - but ascribed it to my own lack of attention to detail rather than the map.

IOF have.... for map to be printed by laser then it has to get clearance from IOF. We had this issue at the Trossachs a couple of years ago.... maps for elite were eventually litho printed... outside the elite classes then they are not a WRE so you can do as you like... subject to local Federation rules of course

Like letting 87 people run the B-final instead of the 75 as was stated in the details, and then running out of maps for the last 4 starters who have to hang around until some beardy official turns up on his bike at quarter to five with some re-used maps.

Great weekend throughout. Also started running a route using the magnetic north line printing error. It looked like a covered route through the building at first glance as it coincidentally lined up with the edge of an interior gap in a building and appeared to intersect another covered walkway. Cost 15 seconds before I paid more attention.

As to the mapping at the overpass, I thought the planner made a good decision placing a control part way down the spiral stairway so it was obvious enough what was going on when you got there. If they had not done so, it would have been still more confusing!

Spot on! Its a complicated structure that might have not been clear enough to choose aws a route choice if you werent familiar with "urban" type mapping. By putting a control there the planner eliminated any doubt - very fair decision. TBH if anyone punched the control and still tried to get out by going back up you need to get out more! Try London City race next year

When is a printing error a printing error and when is it a proofing error?

As far as I am concerned it is well done to the planners, organisers, printers, weather (except Sat am), mappers and all the many helpers for what was a great weekend and obviously a very complex organisational task.

Aye, good weekend, really enjoyed racing round the university, a brilliant area for urban orienteering.

However, was equally miffed that the last 4 starters on the B course had to wait 20mins to get a re-cycled map having already gone through the start lanes. A process needs to be put in place when seeding for finals is done, as an extra 10 or so people ran this course, hence the reason for running out of maps.

NB I did recieve an apology from controller and weekend co-ordinator for this.
