With the Men's Elite class at the JK getting to 80 entrants, anyone know when/how people like myself will be asked to step down to 21L to make space for those who can navigate at speed other than just run fairly fast and get lost but like the challenge?
Will it be done on BOF ranking or UKCup positions, a la last year's 'entertaining' Middle start list?

Well, after the entry closing date (10 March), and using the relevant rules Appendix M (or something like it).

Re: JK Elite Filter
The Middle day is a WRE, so filtering should be done first by World Ranking points, but as I suspect that only a relatively small proportion of competitors will have a meaningful set of World Ranking scores I guess that the BOF rules will then kick in. Under those, filtering should be done using UK Cup scores, probably last year's as it is early in the season.
The big problem is actually the Middle day, when there are only 121 start slots for M21E+M20E+M18E. This was oversubscribed last year as well, and I think they reduced the interval for the early/low-seeded starters rather than chuck anybody off onto lower courses. But the Middle wasn't a WRE last year.

Re: JK Elite Filter
Couldn't that be solved by planning an extra course for the M18/20s?

If I was a (very) good 18/20 and was told I couldn't race the top 21s because some punter wants to get lost in a forest for a couple of hours I think I'd be a bit annoyed.

cheers Mike

I think it's right that the 18/20s get to race the big boys (and punter-elites alike) - good for them to get experience, good for me as I even though they'll kick my Aristotle, I still know they can't chin a pint. It's win-win.
