OK, I'll bite (although I haven't looked at any of the postings).

How many orienteers are Porsche owners?
Am I the only one?

Does anyone else find it hard to manouvre in the parking fields? I find it difficult to find any grip and the handling is very light. Clearance is also very poor.
Has your insurance been helpful with the resulting costs of mending the various scraps & dents?

I guess there must be a few as I have seen stickers on the backs of some cars saying, "My other car is a Porsche."

Never a Porshe, but I'm sure there must be a few people still orienteering who got stuck in a SE/SC car park queue caused by the lack of ground clearance of my dear old Elan in the late 1990s.

I do remember needing 6 trips from home to the woods to deliver the controls for a Badge Event I planned back then.... not an orienteers car when it's your only car! I think the Aerial Atom may have been less practical but not many othe rroad cars (LOTUS=lots of time un-serviceable).

And of course there was the "you can't park in the main car park if there are less than 3 people in your car" event somewhere south of the Thames - after quite a lengthy discussion I was eventually allowed in......

I notice the organisers of the event we planned to go to this Sunday are now warning that parking access may be possible by 4x4 only. Anyone got a snowcat for hire?

Try winter tyres - they provide a huge improvement in traction in snow or wet ground without the expense and running costs of a 4x4. A normal car with winter tyres is better than a 4x4 with road tyres on snow/mud.

I consider winter tyres every year, then decide against thinking that the expense (albeit relatively small) isn't worth the gamble of 'do I really need them, or not', and I always thought they substantially decreased fuel economy. A little research shows this may not be the case. Storage of the tyres when not in use would be a major issue for us.
Anyone find a Panda 4x4 good in muddy parking fields btw?
