"My control descriptions obliterate most of the Meadows on the map though!"
Thanks for printing them on white space this year. Maps are one of the joys of this sport and are so often ruined by description overprints.
As for today's event... what can I say? Fresh and fiendish with some great problems and a wonderfully legible map. I really enjoyed it (as usual) and it must be one of the best urban courses I have done. Big Thanks to all concerned.
(I was on Course B - spared the evil of the Castle over and around).

Re: Edinburgh University Orienteering Club
Great course and I really enjoyed it.
I'm gonna struggle to complete routegadget for the last few controls, though, as I haven't a clue where I went. I was tired anyway (I'm pretty unfit at the moment) but my concentration was blown by some *#$£"@^! with an angry face who shouted something at me as I came away from control 146. The only word I definitely caught was 'green', but I'm pretty sure it was some sort of complaint like 'you're not allowed on green!'.
If this was an accusation of going 'out of bounds' it couldn't have been more wrong. Apart from The Meadows, a bit of Holyrood Park and the finish I was never off paths or road! Anyway, the next thing I knew I was arriving at my control 27 without having (I thought) visited 26. A quick panic, followed by an even quicker visit to 26, and I went on to finish the course. When I got my results it looks as though I had visited, and punched, 26, then punched it again a few minutes later!
Definitely a 'senior moment', but not helped by one person's erroneous intervention.
May your compass needle lose its magnetism just as you need it most!
On a lighter note, I asked for a 'middle' start time for today, and I received 13:00 - the exact middle. For tomorrow, with the start time 'window' being earlier (10:30 - 12:30), I went for a 'middle-late'. I actually start at 10:34!!!

I asked for an "early-middle" and have an 11:58 start.

Probably a little late to swap...

That's one reason I went for the mass start at 11, although as the marketing bumf says it's "a test for the best orienteers" suspect I'll be right at the back so it'll be like having a timed start by the time I get to the third control anyway.

Just like my experiences at FVO night events, where, er, people tend to be better than me

Great weekend thanks EUOC. Saturday's urban race really needed full on concentration the whole way and liked the wee sprinty bit an the end. Some great route choices in the middle - 14-15 on B still puzzling me!
SoSol on Arthur's seat was also really enjoyable. Didnt think the mass start suited my style of O (slow) so opted for blue and had the added fun of being caught up twice by the elite pack! Nice change of focus with the micrO in the middle, followed by a critical up or round route choice on Salisbury Crags. Weather wasnt too shabby either!

The orienteering bug has bit again - cracking weekend, 3 really good events (ceilidh inc.) with good courses.
I'm going to set up the Sunday Morning Hungover Orienteering League, as it's becoming a bit too frequent an ocurance.

Who went round course A (or possibly B) on Saturday with headcam? Will it be uploaded to youtube?

Alan - did you cross through the hedge around 26? Its mapped as black green - which is the same of uncrossable as a thick black line (although less visible on the map)

Oleg did, and I heard someone saying Scott might, not sure if he did though. Definitely would be interesting to see (edited or otherwise)

Re: Edinburgh University Orienteering Club
Great event. But how many people took a short cut, at Holyrood, through an out-of-bounds area?
While sitting in the car park I counted 6 people, over a 15 min period, going up through the crags from the re-entrant beside the rock pinnacle instead of running down the path and round the crags. This was leg 24 - 25 on the Blue course (116-140).
The map clearly shows this as out-of-bounds and the purple line is even kinked to take you down the path.

Re: Edinburgh University Orienteering Club
Just back from Edinburgh, and want to add my thanks to EUOC for an outstanding weekend. Saturday's race was superb - one of the best I've done in this country (course B) - it was unrelentingly interesting and challenging. Got caught out at least twice in missing spotting a blindingly obvious uncrossable barrier because I was too busy sorting out the intricate bit at the end. Dohhh! Sunday's Blue course was also interesting, (even if I got tangled in gorse once too often!) - my worst mistake being one of the simplest bits at the end - seems I can't count roundabouts!!
