Does anybody know where I could find an old map of southern Edinburgh online?
There used to be old maps of Edinburgh and Arthur's Seat on the EUOC Routegadget side, but they all seem to have been deleted. If this is an attempt to stop people looking at old maps before this weekend's events, it would unfairly give a further advantage to those who have run in the area before.

Looks like they are on ELO's RG site:
http://www.elo.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-bi ... =19&kieli=
I navigated to them via EUOC web -> Events menu -> Big Weekend -> Results 20xx -> RG link on that page.

I can confirm that EUOC didn't have their own RouteGadget account until recently.
They used the ELO account prior to that.

I wouldn't get too excited about old maps - as usual we've got some new bits in store for you - even the start isn't on that old Southside map

Yes, it's on the paper map but not on the equivalent RG map extract.
My control descriptions obliterate most of the Meadows on the map though!

Aye, you can check it out on the 2008 map- it's right by the bowling green.(which got demolished in 2009)

Re: Edinburgh University Orienteering Club
It's much more fun not loking at any maps before an event, particularly when I've not been there before. It may not be advantageous, but when the competition is not that serious I always adopt that approach.
As a side effect it means that in areas such as the last Australian WMOC final I am completely at home not having a clue what the map will be like.
If only it were possible to wipe one's memory of previou visits to an area

Everything okay with Saturday's race area? No problems with ice?

not an official stance by any stretch of the imagination, but although it was a bit icy last night (10pm) it's been ok today.

I agree with eddie, as someone who never has any hope of winning I really like starting an event and being faced with a completely unfamiliar map. I'll sometimes get out old maps before events I've previously been to but it always feels a bit like cheating, even though I know it isn't.
I still love running round Edinburgh but I think the first time I looked at an urban o map of Edinburgh will always be my favourite.

Really enjoyed course B today - good planning, with concentration required all the time to find the best routes.

Ditto that for C. Could have been a bit longer though! Who else lost some seconds in the bin store?! Great control site.

Best urban race of the year (and last year) in my opinion. Great route choice for the first half of the course, then very technical legs for the second. Awesome.
