My Mole (ville) tells me that during a Christmas visit to Dunkeld the forests of Craig a Barns and Craig Vinnean had been severely damaged by the storms in December, with more, newly exposed trees still coming down over Christmas.
I don't suppose that yesterday's little episode of 100mph winds will have been without impact either.
The planner of the sprint race tells me however that the area remains largely intact, which is a bit of a shame
What news from the JK organisation ?

Uh oh, potential Scottish Champs 2011 problems again. Probably shouldn't have entered 21E

Re: JK Forests
Three months to sort it out should be a tad easier than three days... Maybe they can use post-storm Drummond Castle for the JK

Re: JK Forests
Like the photos of Dunkeld on the JK website.... somehow the thick heather, low visibility & brashing are missing

But much better technical orienteering than the photos suggest

Drove through the area in and around the castle grounds today and there didn't seem to be a lot of new damage (obviously from what I could see from the road).

Re: JK Forests
The Planners report that Craig a'Barns is still standing despite recent gales. There are large areas turned to matchwood in the south east of the area and a number of courses will have their starts changed (longer walk I am afraid) to avoid the worst of the damage. Runnability throughout the whole forest has suffered -it will not really affect top runners but will make the spread of times longer. Course lengths may be reduced slightly. I am contacting the Estate to see if they will clear the 12 trees over paths that affect the easy courses. Good news for other areas is that recent snow has flattened the bracken. Livingston is understood to be unaffected.
