There are 3 other Cup clubs in Scotland who have not entered, but it is an issue that some fresh thinking might bring up a better solution.

Presumably that's MAROC, GRAMP and INVOC? IIRC the CSC qualification threshold is 125 members - i can't find a table of club memberships anywhere on the BOF website - is it publicly available?
However, you can use the ranking list to get an approximate overview of relative club size/strength: below for each SOA club are their total number of ranked runners, and number with greater than 6000 points
AROS 4 3
AYROC 19 5
BASOC 15 3
CLYDE 37 15
ECKO 31 7
ELO 9 2
ESOC 86 26
EUOC 5 4
FVO 68 40
GRAMP 85 32
INT 57 32
INVOC 61 14
KFO 16 4
MAROC 69 25
MOR 35 9
RR 23 12
SOLWAY 15 3
STAG 12 4
TAY 32 4
TINTO 10 1
Obviously all sorts of caveats: the rankings list excludes under 16s and those who only compete in local (level D) events, and it only covers "first claim" memberships. Also, 6000 points is an arbitrary threshold to assess strength, but theoretically equates to an "average" orienteer with 6 ranking scores...
Nonetheless it's difficult to see why e.g. INVOC is a "big" club whilst FVO is a "small" club...
I'm not sure why half the clubs in Scotland (representing half the membership) haven't bothered to enter the Faskally heat, seems a bit of a shame, especially since it's being marketed as the "Scottish Final"

Correct, ESOC, INVOC, GRAMP, MAROC (In that order of size, from 2009 figures) INVOC have lots of members that only run very local events. eg our SOL held at Barry Buddon in October, ESOC, GRAMP, MAROC all had about 45 participants while INVOC only had approximately 15.
FVO and INT both have about 110-120 members. All the other Scottish clubs have between 3 & 60 members. We have an inter club competition held in November each year, FVO & INT are included as large clubs in that competition.

A total 906 runners scored points this year (double-counting those who scored on 2 different courses). Total scores per club, and points/runner are as follows - congratulations to MAROC on getting over 100 competitors to run and on passing 300 000 points for the year:
MAROC 300011 (119 = 2521/runner)
GRAMP 221872 (89 = 2493/runner)
ESOC 184333 (76 = 2425/runner)
INT 173650 (67 = 2592/runner)
FVO 159765 (71 = 2250/runner)
INVOC 155318 (85 = 1827/runner)
ECKO 119723 (43 = 2784/runner)
MOR 99821 (54 = 1849/runner)
TAY 94496 (40 = 2362/runner)
CLYDE 87446 (33 = 2650/runner)
RR 44337 (17 = 2608/runner)
KFO 42772 (16 = 2673/runner)
BASOC 42104 (16 = 2632/runner)
AYROC 37907 (22 = 1723/runner)
STAG 26149 (14 = 1868/runner)
SOLWAY 24909 (9 = 2768/runner)
EUOC 23454 (13 = 1804/runner)
ELO 19679 (7 = 2811/runner)
TINTO 16501 (8 = 2063/runner)

Interesting (and worrying) the reluctance of those Scottish clubs to enter as the final is actually in Scotland -OK a bit of Scotland that has been in England in the past and is South of Berwick but in Scotland all the same.
Before anyone comments I appreciate that the travel from the North of Scotland could be several hours

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Don't think this part of Scotland has ever been part of Englandshire.

Greywolf, firstly you are linking to what looks like a slightly dubious source and secondly the map shows the "Kingdom" of Northumbria which suggests it wasn't at that time even part of "England". Debate!

Re: CompassSport Cup/Trophy RIP ?
The map shown is not only dubious, it just seems to follow the old county boundaries which takes it within a couple of miles of the Bowanhill map so even if a true representation you couldn't tell which side the event is on.

Re: CompassSport Cup/Trophy RIP ?
I don't think the boundary was established until the 13th century, long after the "Kingdom of Northumbria". Up to then the poor reivers didn't know/care if they were robbing the English or the Scots.

According to the rules it would appear FVO are ineligible for the Trophy, or am I missing something?
Entry to the Trophy competition shall be limited to those clubs with 125 or fewer
National and Local members of British Orienteering. For this purpose individual Senior
and Junior members each count as one member; families count as three members.

INT would also be ineligible and MOR possibly. ESOC's membership was not as high as 266, it was 185 in 2009, 213 in 2010 and 199 in 2011.

Paul, not sure where you got those numbers from but I don't think they're anywhere near accurate...

SOLWAY is also missing from the list unless we have slipped south of the border and just haven't realised it yet!
