Re: British sprints and middle
As a (past) treasurer of a (small) club, we worked quite happily for years at around £1k in the bank, that was until BOF started throwing money at us (which we didn't refuse), for Club Nights - I'm not convinced of their worth t.b.h. but at least we are now very financially sound (for the time being, anyway!).

Re: British sprints and middle
I’m not involved in the organising or planning of the events (because I want to try and win!) but I can answer a few questions.
Public transport: no problem to the university for the sprint race of course. The event centre for the middle is at “The Farmer’s Cart” on the lane that goes from Towthorpe to the A64 past Strensall army camp. There are frequent Coastliner buses along the A64 but The Farmer’s Cart is about 1.5 miles from the main road with no pavements and then at least another three quarters from the entrance to the assembly. You’d almost certainly get a lift from a passing orienteer but given the price of bus fares a shared taxi will go all the way and will not cost very much more – about £16 we think. Or you can get the train and walk to my house and I’ll give you a lift – I live at control 10 on the C course of the 2010 York Race http://www.ebor.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-b ... =47&kieli=
York is of course a beautiful place to stay for the weekend. The main problem is that lots of people know this, so places are often full and certainly not cheap. So it’s worth hitting the internet now for the Youth Hostel, travelodges and so on. And I’ll get a pdf of the best real ale pubs on an O map put on the Ebor site some time before the weekend.
I’m sure it would be a good idea for Ebor to organise lots of other things to go with the weekend such as buses and socials and so on but realistically there is only so much a few people can do.
I am on the Ebor committee and can assure everyone that any surplus will be spent on the sport. We almost went bankrupt when the White Rose was cancelled due to fire risk (1976) and more recently foot and mouth so we do keep enough of a reserve to finance the following WR and leave us financially stable - but other than that out money goes on maps, coaching and events.

Thoughts on the Basingstoke Urban entry fee
You're on the Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend with Guildford on the Saturday and Didcot on the Monday. So you may benefit from Urban addicts wanting to overdose. But the you may lose some people who can't face hard surfaces 3 days in a row, and the other 2 are in NUL and you're not.
So speak to the other 2, find out what they are charging and make sure you don't charge any more. Ask them about combining entries and offering a discount if all 3 entered.

I agree with Loofa.
Why not make it a 3 Day. "Urban O in the South 3-days". Dream up a simple logo (even if just the 3 club logos and the "text" and then give a prize for cumulative time over all 3 races! A mug or coaster maybe... Give people a reason to do all 3.
Not sure how far planning is but you could make the Basingstoke a little bit shorter maybe...??

Can someone confirm if Version 8 and 9 dibbers will be OK or not? Cheers

Re: British sprints and middle
SI boxes will take all versions of dibbers. Just one further thing about public transport to the Middle Champs: it would require crossing the busy A64 probably there and back and this is not to be recommended! Event organiser

Re: British sprints and middle
My favourite pubs now on a jpeg on the Ebor site.
http://eborienteers.org.uk/2012/03/york-pubs-the-best-recommendations/
My local is the Minster Inn but I won't be there on Saturday evening (going to see Stewart Lee at the Theatre Royal). Hope my rivals restrict themselves to a half in each pub as I don't want to win too easily on the Sunday.

And for those who want to travel farther afield can I plug "The Buck Inn" at Thornton Watlass. North of Ripon it mayb,e but it sells good real ale kept to a high standard and quality food.

Enjoyed course 4 at Strensall today - just what a Middle race should be.
Routegadget for both days should be here soon http://www.ebor.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi, but it looks like the person from EBOR who is uploading it is having some problems
. Shout if you need help!

Re: British sprints and middle
Thankyou to Nev and Barry and the EBOR team and friends who staged a brilliant weekend! I have gone a bit mad with the camera (!) so I have uploaded my photos from the Heats but you'll have to come back to see the Sprint Finals and today's Middle Distance snaps, which I'm in the process of doing (it's going to be a long evening!) As per usual, you should be able to download them for yourselves. If you have any difficulties e-mail me and I will send them on to you. If you use them in newsletters etc please let me know and I would appreciate a credit.
A couple of youngsters crept in to the photos this weekend, parents if you are not happy with them staying, please contact me and I'll take them off.

UK Cup results now updated from the weekend: http://www.ukcup.org.uk/. In the UK Cup we give points to anyone, regardless of residence or nationality, even if they can't be british champions

Anyone know why Linnea Gustaffson down as mp on the Sprint Final? She seems to have a split for every leg on Winsplits?

Re: British sprints and middle
I think I saw some results that said "OOB". But don't know any more details, e.g. whether it was a flower bed or uncrossable wall, and whether she admitted and DQ-ed herself, or someone spotted her.
