Don't be so sure. It's not like I've never been to Scotland before! I will go if a majority of my children want to go - and they won't know what they are doing until after Christmas - it's a long way, the camp site is very expensive and I'm not sure how to manage my teensy caravan on the way north if I go to Livingstone on the way.

If I'm going to spend a lot of money and travel a lot of way and go to a lot of trouble then I might kick over the traces - the Prague Easter 3 day event costs a grand total of £15.50 to enter until the end of February and one of the best holiday event I ever did was the 3 Jours du Sud Ouest when the JK was off due to F and M. Life is very short and i need to start packing it in - it's not a done deal

Allow me to clarify an issue . . . . .

David Livingstone (1813 - 1873) was a Scottish missionary and an explorer in Africa.

Livingstone is a city in Zambia, named after the explorer. It is pronounced Liv - ing - stone.

Livingston (note no E, and pronounced with a "short" sounding O) is a New Town in West Lothian, Scotland.

Day 1 of the JK 2012 is being held in Livingston, Scotland.

Thankfully the official jk 2012 web got it right

The first entry deadline does seem to be unusually early - is there a reason why. I must admit I alsways enjoy discussing who is going to do what when we all get together at Christmas.

The first closing date for the 6 Days is usually about 6 months prior to the event, so I guess that's the timescale that Scottish organisers are used to.

There are also issues with have a closing date in January, as we discovered for Oban 2011. People forget to renew their membership and then try and enter at the last minute and it all ends in tears (and extra workload for the entry team).

On the positive side, it means that you could give entries as Christmas presents!

Planning and organising progressing steadily and I should be in a position to issue Bulletin 1 for the WRE at Dunalastair soon. Toilets continue to be a big ticket item - makes you yearn for the good old days of slit trenches and hessian screens.

It really doesn't! Besides, "getting the toilet truck out of the assembly field" was among the best entertainments you laid on for us at the 6 days. It kept my 2 year old rapt for about half a hour.

I've been doing a bit of map-geeking in preparation for KERNO's (inevitably triumphant) JK Relay campaign. I'm quite excited about Newtyle, but can anybody tell me what the purply-grey vertical hash represents?

The paper copy (from 2010 event) shows these as brown lines, there is nothing on the key, but I guess it's meant to be an undergrowth screen. I had several controls in that area, so it wouldn't have been very high undergrowth. There are no brown lines on my map from our 2005 event.
