Not the Nopesport League
Anyone want to start listing the Urban Events that could have been included if the "real league" was increased to (say) 28 races?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Not the Nopesport League
Well of course I'm biased as I'm planning two. This year's York Race again has a fantastic "sprint style" section at the start followed by some "which bridges and tunnels should I use?" route choices with the city centre snickelways to finish with. And new area Easingwold is everything you might expect of a traditional market town including the narrowest alley I've yet seen. I can't decide whether to make this a traditional urban race or have 2 separate sprints or a prologue and chasing sprint?? The area is so good it would cater for any of these.

This can be done with the rankings list surely. Sweden for eg has rankings per discipline as an option. We just need the ability to rank by discipline in the BOF rankings. Ideally have a choice of how many races of that type you want in the ranking search. And of course choose your age class(es). I am sure you will be able to find some combination which you can, if not win, be near the top of.

Re: Not the Nopesport League
Basingstoke (sub)urban will be a proper event. Provisonal planning is putting the Long course at 6.5km, Medium at 4.2km and Short at 2.7km. Most control sites will be in parkland, rather than 'round the back' of buildings. There's even a 'spectator' control, albeit out of sight of most spectators!
Basinsgtoke has lots to offer - Europes largest multi-storey car park and the birthplace of luminaries such as Ruth Ellis, Liz Hurley and the bass player in the Troggs.
I'll print a bit of the map when I work out how to!

Re: Not the Nopesport League
Basingstoke was the subject of much stick from Mark Steel on Radio 4 the other night. It's on http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b018csyv
One of the themes was how easy it was to get lost in Basingstoke... comments about most of the inhabitants are people who settled down in the town after failing to find their way out of the ring road etc etc. So it should be good for urban orienteering.
Must be some publicity opportunities there somewhere?
If the 3 urban events are to be marketed as a weekend I wonder what the name would be? 3 average towns in the home counties? That's a test.....

The return of the Oxford City Race - 20th October 2012
I promise full length courses, with all the highlights of proper fast-thinking sprint racing thrown in. Brilliant architecture, plenty of olde colleges and more posh people than you can shake a stick at (please don't).
*We also guarantee it will be better than anything you've ever been to in Cambridge*

Re: Not the Nopesport League
Jayne Sales and I have been in contact with clubs in the south re a Southern Urban League.
Nothing will be released until into January but it looks like we have between 12 and 14 Urbans in the south of England and only 3 are NUL.
There are still some clubs to respond, one of which we know by this thread has an urban (and it is not Oxford).
So watch this space in the New Year.

I spotted a "Basingstoke Roundabouts" bumper sticker a few months ago. Seriously.

We built a club entry system so you don't have to! racesignup.co.uk
