That sounds great Kitch! I reckon it would be a fantastic opportunity.

Where are you going to find a massively respected athlete from? Even if you got the English National cross country champion, which you ought to be able to, he isn't a properly celebrated distance athlete (or is he?).
You could get that bloke off the tv who came second at Snowdon.

We have an eminent UK distance runner in the BOF team as Development Officer (North).

Definitely the best idea I've seen Kitch. There must be some good mileage in that

In the past Steve has mentioned the risk of injury as the reason for not venturing too far off the beaten tracks, I suspect the same may be true of any current eminent athlete.
Channel 4 might be interested in a follow-up in which the Halliday brothers teach Mr Cracknell how to orienteer / run down hills.

Thanks for the excellent feedback - I will discuss at the Scottish 6 Day Board meeting this Thursday. Cracknell's a cracking idea but it depends on who we could find. I might pass the idea through sportscotland too.
Fac et Spera. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the Scottish 6 Days Assistant Coordinator

Re: Innovative orienteering ideas to attract funding
If we want him to be nice to us let's use his full name..
James Cracknell would be a great candidate
He may not be primarily a runner
but
as we know he has done several endurance events/ challenges including adventure races.
Oh !
and who was in his team (and worked for his company) ??
ah
our very own Bruce Duncan !!

Re: Innovative orienteering ideas to attract funding
We went to "An evening with James Cracknell & Steve Redgrave" in June. Although he seemed fine, it struck me he wasn't as lively as before. However that is nearly 6 months ago, and I imagine he's made rapid progress since then. He seemed very fit & up for it on the cross England challenge that Matt & Dan Halliday beat his team in.
