According to the minutes of the October Rules Group meeting, the soon to be published 2012 rules will make it absolutely clear that putting any part of your body through an impassable feature is not permitted.

For anyone who thought that might have been legal previously ( ), that's cleared up.

And what about over the top of an impassable feature? I believe that shouldn't be allowed either, but does the proposed new rule wording make it clear?

In the document I linked to it says:

Rule 7.2.7: At events using maps produced to the ISSOM specification, impassable features (as defined in ISSOM) shall not be crossed by any part of a competitor's body. Hence it is NOT permitted to reach through or lean over such a feature to punch at a control site.

That would seem to prevent the concept of jumping over OOB flower beds as well. I'm waiting for the opportunity to go underan uncrossable feature. I can think of one legitimate circumstance- an uncrossable wall or fence on a bridge or overpass where the area below is accessible and in bounds -presumably it is legal to cross above an uncrossable feature in a similar set up -logically we do that with uncrossable water features all the time.

Chester could, but sadly didn't, have had a control site of "lake, underneath".

The lake in question being a pond (but mapped with dark blue which I think technically makes it a "lake") in the middle of traffic roundabout with pedestrian underpasses meeting beneath.
