Perth & Kinross Council pointed me at Transerv to ask about temporary signage (and a temporary speed restriction on the A9) and "helpfully" I was sent a scanned copy of a fax sent to them in 2006 of a 1993 Department of Transport document entitled Provision of Temporary Traffic Signs to Special Events! Also sent was a document produced by the AA showing exactly what signs were done for a 2011 event (RBS Caledonian Challenge) and a contact number/email.
Does anyone have experiences of elf'n'safety and their attitude to the usual O signs? I do believe at JK2009 in Northumberland somebody started taking down the signs we had up on the A1 near Kyloe. I think the issue only relates to Trunk Roads but given the slightly hazardous nature of the A9 junctions (especially Day 3 and 4) I guess we need to comply.
Red and white signs are not an option - white on blue, black on white and black on yellow are!

You see those AA special event signs a fair bit about.
Perhaps contact the AA and ask how this works?

I have contact with the AA Signs Manager (Vivienne Beecroft) already. Anybody else been asked to produce "proper" signs or do we ignore officialdom?

I think you are right about it being different for trunk roads. I once asked my mate (who runs gretna gateway finances) why they didnt have signs up on the motorway and the cost was into 6 figures I think! I think they might have put some up since.
I know those brown signs that the STB put up for tourist attractions cost a fortune.

Indications are about £30 for a nice yellow sign plus the cost of a man in a van to put up and take down. Transerv require someone putting out a sign to have £5 million public liability insurance minimum!

I'll no doubt incur Kitch's wrath for meandering off in memory lane, but at a Swiss 5 day in the days before detailed venue descriptions were given, competitors were supposed to get on a motorway and follow the signs to the event. Problem was that the organisers had no right to place signs on the motorway which the police duly removed. You can imagine the chaos
