Can people please make the effort to stick to the original topic of a thread.
example the Horses for Courses thread is about specialisation of our internationalists at WOC. Now people are talking about "races I organised" "races I like" "when is such and such a race"
This behaviour is part of what is sending this forum into the doldrums - the usual suspects feel they always have to say something, they just hcan't flipping help themselves, even if its nothing to do with the original topic, they have to say something.
Thats why I put up the challenge.
You know who you are because for the most part you stopped for a brief while.
So, please keep posting
But think before you post
are you on topic ?
or are you just blethering for the sake of saying something ?
If I was a moderator you'd soon know about it.

Re: Sticking to the subject
I did apologise for temporarily deviating that thread into Horse-O and then shut up because the last race I specifically trained for was the Great North Run (and that was 20 years ago).
Some forums (fora?) have the ability to split a thread in progress without intervention of a moderator -is that a route we should consider?
Please note I did also suggest a "blatant plug" icon for when we are promoting a specific event.
To support the original theme here "Contribution" seems to have headed in the direction of "why I hate score events"

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

I have been following the thread with interest but I didn't think it had been spoilt by the few 'diversions'. I haven't commented myself because I have nothing worthwhile to add (other than perhaps elite athletes don't choose between 400m and 5000m, that choice is made by their physical attributes - don't know if the same applies to orienteering).
However, I wouldn't want to inhibit anyone from posting something that isn't strictly relevant, especially as no-one is maliciously going out of their way to derail the thread. I must admit that my first thought when I saw the title was 'Horse-O'!
I see this forum as being a few friends having a discussion in the bar after an event (or committee meeting), rather than a formal, structured debate. As long as things don't get too far out of hand, surely we can tolerate the odd OT contribution.
