To summarise: 'run orienteering in the UK'
A daunting task. I wonder who will be brave enough to take this on? I believe they are interviewing today for the Chair. I await the outcome with interest.

Was it advertised?
The Chair role seems vital ... but making it voluntary rather limits the potential field to those with the time to spare

Bugger I seem to have missed the closing date.
Who in their right mind would want to take that on.

Anyone who would want to take that on is clearly not a suitable candidate for the job.

Re: Terms of reference for new ECC
I think the term "home based" was indcluded specifically to exclude him!
I do think the terms are right for the role given what is required. There will be orienteers out there with that expereince - whether or not they are prepared to do it for free is an other matter. What we dont need is someone who has all the ideas in the world but, in the local parlance "couldnt run a menage". Unfortuntately I think there are a few out there in that category who dont know it!

A daunting task.
Daunting task, indeed, Homer. When compared with the other committees, the remit and responsibilities are huge, and crucial to the future direction of the sport in UK. Good luck to the successful candidate.

Re: Terms of reference for new ECC
There is of course a presumption here ......
...... do the members actually want anyone, or a committee to run orienteering in the UK ?
In reality the clubs run the orienteering that most participants experience.
There is doubtless a need for the oversight of the top level competitions but we must not turn ECC into an all encompassing monster.
We therefore need to establish within the ECC remit clear boundaries. If this is done from the outset the task need not be so daunting.

Re: Terms of reference for new ECC
The chances are anyone with the time and experience to do the role is a retired person. Anyone who has retired would surely be certifiable if they wanted to step back in to a role with all the committe work, management speak and responsibility this job seems to entail. (As well as having a Nopesport target attached firmly to your back). Avoidance of such was was one of the reasons I jumped at early retirement - and I'd run 10 miles to avoid it. Kudos and very good luck to those willing to step up to the plate.

Home based, needs to attend meetings...
8 hours a month.
So that would be one meeting in BOFland every couple of months for greywolf?
Pretty much rules out anyone not living the the midlands.

Re: Terms of reference for new ECC
I dunno, we have a Director who lives in Lisburn and manages to make it to meetings, so I don't see why having a committee Chair who lived near Inverness would be any more impractical. Even if the flights aren't great, there's always the sleeper train...
That said, BOF are making an effort to cut back on face-to-face meetings and do more business electronically when possible - not only is travelling inconvenient for the volunteers, but it costs BOF rather a lot of money. But there is still definite value in having actual meetings occasionally, so I don't think they'll be eliminated in the foreseeable future.

Which would therefore all add up to make it rather more than 8 hours a month is, I think, what was being got at. That latter figure does look rather unrealistic.
