An excellent event today

Great event today. Can't understand the splits for first leg on the Final. I know I was slow, but reckon the clock must have been about 3 minutes out!! Does any on have an idea from taking their own splits? Thank you AIRE. Can't wait for Skipton tomorrow

The first split puzzled me too. Made a complete hash in afternoon - on C went from 5 to 9
(the line from 8 to 9 going straight through 5) Beats me why 6 & 9 don't have a dash under them.

The chasing start was delayed by 3 minutes while we waited for some extra control descriptions to be printed out. Therefore everyone's time to the first control will be 3 minutes longer than they actually took. It's the same for everyone so the overall results are valid (except for 5 or 6 helpers who had punching starts) - the results will be correct when they are posted on the web sometime tomorrow.

Seemed to be some Uni evnt. There were several male "fairies" around the place. We sawa guy in a bright red ballet tutu, long red rugbgy socks and red tiara calmly walking up Headingly Road. H seemed un peturbed by the looks he was getting!!

I too went from 5 to 9. The line from 8 went straight through 5 and the line from 5 to 6 was barely visible. Only when I punched 9 and realised the line went to 10 did I realise my mistake. Perhaps I shouldn't orientate my map as that made the 9 look like 6

There was one control (no. 6 on the A final, but used on others too) where the box had been hung on a wire round a tree at eye level height for someone of around 6' or so. The control was on a stake a couple of metres from the tree (the description was the tree). Quite a few people arrived at and focused on the control, didn't see the box hung up, couldn't see anything on the control or on the floor next to it, and reported it missing. In the meantime, the control got knocked over and propped up against the tree, which ironically made the box more readily seeable. Most of us who couldn't find the box were well less than 6' high! The organisers accepted that we had visited the control correctly (and had wasted time looking for the box).
It was a minor issue that was readily and sensibly resolved. Flags up some issues to learn from around siting of boxes etc especially for races of this nature.

I am guilty of a similar heightist crime in one of our local urban events - the branches of trees are very handy to loop round the wire for security but you have to be wary of siting the box out of reach - esp as in my case it was on the junior course doh!. Its one of these things you learn as you go along with urban. There doesnt seem to be an idiots guide as such....

The lesson I draw (having never really thought about it before) is that the function of the kite is to draw attention to the punch (SI unit). Putting the kite 1m from the punch (in this case 1m below) is a bad idea; the kite actually distracted attention from the punch, which otherwise would have been spotted easily.
Agree with awk that it was a minor issue, sensibly and quickly disposed of, and did not detract from an excellent event.
