Having survived Oban 2011 without getting bitten by the beasties I was surprised in the bath tonight to find 2 familiar looking black dots on my shin when I looked to see why my leg was itchy.
I don't recall going through any bracken, or much undergrowth at all and was fully covered. They must have been swimming in one of the ditches I failed to clear and have liked the look of my socks.

Googling Barry Buddon ticks I see alot of cadets have been got by them as well. Interesting as I normally associate them with deer areas and chest high bracken, presume here it's long grass and birds.

Yes, Oban 2011 was remarkably tick-free. All my family got some yesterday - didn't expect any, so hadn't covered myself in insect repellent like I usually do. I heard of someone else who had 6. Tick season seems to get longer every year.

I got 5 - but then I was wearing knee length trousers (borrowed from girlfriend because I forgot my longs).
Being irresistible to ticks is not a particularly useful superpower
