Cambridge City Race
Thanks to CUOC for putting on a great event again, with some good route choice options. I took some photos after my run, you can see them on http://www.flickr.com/photos/nh53/sets/72157627952302434/

Agreed. An enjoyable event. Whoever arranged the sunny weather deserves a pat on the back too!
Thanks CUOC.

Really enjoyed the event. The O-signs from the station were a good touch. Working out the route from 12 (103 to 13 (124) on course 3 was nicely convoluted. Thanks, CUOC.

Indeed - a great day - well done everyone.
BUT.......
......What are you going to do to about all the people who ran through the uncrossable watercourses in the final stages of the race. Dozens of them were doing it as I walked back to the bus stop

Re: Cambridge City Race
As one who nearly got his feet wet before being warned ('body of water' doesn't sound very brook-like until you look at the definition on the IOF site) I did think it would have been helpful to have included these on the 'do not cross' map legend - I nearly fell into the trap of thinking 'not on uncrossable legend so must be crossable'.
A shame too after so much hard work by CUOC to see so many running on college lawns and through forbidden gates ... cannot even headless chickens heed the warnings?
But only a minor blip on a good event.

Brilliant to see Ian Webb and OUOC have found and mapped this interesting area. I wonder if it's useful for anything other than orienteering?
No, really, it was great fun. Thanks to CUOC

Yep, a great weekend - Cambridge yesterday was excellent, and Rowney today was good fun as well. Well done CUOC & WAOC.
Saturday also highlighted the main deficiency in the current event level criteria: I shall be formally proposing that these are amended so an event may only be registered at Level B if it is possible to hire punts within 200m of the assembly area.

Agreed - whilst it's a pity that the mountain bike area has been lost in Rowney (best bit of the map), it was definitely worth staying down for (we had a great evening meal out in Cambridge too, and the Vermeer's Women exhibition at the Fitzwilliam was superb). A big thank you to both clubs from us too.

Re: Cambridge City Race
Great race. We appreciated the signing from the Trumpington Park and Ride bus stop. Challenging courses with opportunity for route choise. It would have helped to Have had the classes on the maps, or a list of who ran what at Pre Start. I know a few people ran the wrong course as they were not sure which one to run and it wasn't on the description sheets. Agree with Mrs H re the crossing of the stream after the road tunnel. Perhaps a different leg would have avoided this. But, these slight niggles aside, it was a very enjpoyable evnt - and I got lots of Masters Cup blobby points
Well done CUOC

Was the "Officer and the Laughing Girl" on display - if so, could you spot all the 'O' features on the 17th Century map of the New World.
Also will you be visiting the Damien Hurst exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery between races on Sat?
In addition, I will visit the Hepworth in Wakefield after the event.

I asked the start officials.

Looking forward to seeing the results get on the BOF website now.

No it wasn't - there were 4 Vermeers, A Young Woman seated at a Virginal (which I gather isn't a virginal!), The Lacemaker, The Music Lesson and Young Woman seated at a Virginal (yes, subtly different title!). Brilliant seeing them - vastly smaller than anticipated - but for me the highlights were some of the others, especially the two by Gerrit Dou, who I'd never even heard of before. The handling of light and fabric by them was phenomenal.
No I won't be going to see Damien Hurst - I can't get interested in him at all. On the other hand, the Hepworth definitely looks worth a trip!
