The programme for the 2012 UK Masters Cup is now available here http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/UK_Masters_Cup. It will be the best eight from the 18 events to count and Eddie has agreed to do the scoring again for next year - many thanks to him!
We anticipate awarding the CompassPoint prizes for this year's competition at the British Sprint/Middle weekend.
We hope you all enjoyed this year's competition and Senior Competitions Group has decided not to tinker with the format as it largely seemed to work. In particular, we're pleased that it seemed to involve no (or little) additional work for organisers.

Re: UK Masters Cup 2012
Is there a mistake on that page where it says 3rd place gets 50 points? Should be 51 points I think (that is what you seem to have awarded in 2011 anyway).

Can anyone tell me where to see the rules? I seem to remember that for 2011 there was a requirement to do a number of middle or sprint or urban races?

I think you may be thinking of the NWOL. I don't think there was any such restriction for the Masters Cup.
Hopefully there are no events with restrictions on numbers. I've just noticed that the final race for 2011 has closed entries having reached their limit. I hope this doesn't prove decisive in any class.

Thanks, it will be the NWOL that I'm getting muddled up with.

Yes, there's no restriction on type of events for the Masters Cup. It's eight events to count and there are eight "Long" events in the programme, so (should you be so inclined) you can get a full set of scores without doing any sprint/middle/urban/night events.

Re: UK Masters Cup 2012
Wasn't there some talk from BOF about creating a unified "Top Racing" series for the year which would count for Junior/Elite/Senior Cups - rather than having each Cup select their own races?
I seemed to remember the idea of a monthly Weekend (with one race on Sat and one on Sun) between February and October
It seemed like a good idea but not sure anything ever came of it.

Looks like a really good, balanced programme - again.
Now we only need the Nopesport Urban League schedule and we can start planning next year...

Arnold - that was the idea pushed by BOF central. And they are still pushing it judging by the competition review. But I'm not aware of anyone outside of BOF central being keen on it as they know that juniors/elites/vets each have different priorities and commitments (exams, WOCs, year-round jollies in that order). Besides you'd never be able to co-ordinate it with clubs.
In a similiar vein and referring to the UK Cup thread, this is the first time that the UKC and the FCC have gone on into the autumn (they used to be confined to the competition season). I thought the turn-out in the finals of both to be really pathetic, and show that the year-round schedule for them is a bad one.

This was, I gather, exacerbated by the fact that the FCC final was not a mass start event. I was reasonably reliably told that quite a few juniors had intended to run until they discovered it was a standard format. A standard event, with no real motivation to run, outside the competition season and in a part of the world that isn't super attractive (cf Scotland or Lakes) wasn't an attractive proposition. I can see why. It certainly broke every rule that we tried to observe in setting the competition up in the first place.

The UK Cup final wasn't exactly a mass start either.
But its always good to run experiments like this, especially if you're willing learn from them.

Has the final version of the competition review been published yet ?
All I can find on the BO website is a document from May 2010 which contains the statement "Feb 2011 Board to make final decisions and implementation will be planned and marketed to the membership" which doesn't seem to have happened yet.

"implementation will be planned and marketed to the membership"
Sounds like a non-sequiteur to me. My nference is that the "Implementation" means that it WILL happen.
"Marketing" to me means that you try to sell an idea - no assurance that you'll succeed.

So it means that they will do it, and afterwards try to convince the membership that it has been a good idea?

Could 'marketing' mean persuading you to turn out?
