Not affected thankfully, but Steve Redgrave seemed to cope OK at the highest level.

Me! I'm not sure what advice I can give, though.

A colleague at my work cycles competitively with diabetes. Post your questions or PM them and I'll ask him.

Re: Sport with diabetes
Thanks Copepod.
I'm assuming you're talking about Type 1? Best thing I have ever done is DAFNE course; helpful for life in general. Ask your hospital/diabetes specialist nurse. Some general details here: http://www.dafne.uk.com/
I found the following book helpful too: http://www.shericolberg.com/diabetic-athletes-handbook.asp Worth getting hold of as it deals specifically with sport and diabetes, rather than just diabetes. It also covers insulin pumps; technology is improving all the time.

Re: Sport with diabetes
I would be interested to hear of anyone's experiences of doing mountain marathons with diabetes. I have found it is possible, but does add additional complexity to an already tough challenge.

Re: Sport with diabetes
My experince was trying to keep up with someone who has diabetes and was doing a mountain marathon. It was possible, but seems to be tougher each year.

Re: Sport with diabetes
Been a long time since I did a mountain marathon (10 years!), but i'd compare it to a long cycle, have to make sure that food intake is right and blood sugars are kept an eye on. Don't think the minimalist/lightweight approach would suit a diabetic, extra food is a must.
