Level BEE event

Entries are now open for the A-mazing four race challenge that is the Level BEE.

The format for this years maize-maze competition is four races - two heats, one a micro maze and the other on part of the main maze, a day final using both the maze and the micro maze, followed by a night final on a re-arranged maze. Wistow, just to the south of Leicester, has a cafe, garden centre, parkland, speciality shops and a haunted church. We are also have use of the area with children's play equipment.

Because of a high access charge, we have an early closing date to allow cancellation if we do not get sufficient entries to cover enough of the costs. So if you want to try to buzz around the mazes and earn your stripes, then enter before the first closing date so we don't have to cancel

We had great fun yesterday in the sun checking the maze for cut throughs made by the public now that it is closed, but the maze was found to be in fine shape so we enjoyed ourselves having some more test runs.

We are printing the maps on Thursday afternoon so we will ask Adrian at fabian4.co.uk to keep the online entries open till then, but as the final details say: -

"Entry on the Day will be possible. But please arrive early (or email the organiser) so we have time to print extra maps (if needed). Starts from 2.00pm but arrivals after 3.45pm may not have time to compete all races"

Even if is only half as good as the two previous ones at the National Forest Maze by WCH it will be fantastic! See you there.

I'm surprised that no one else has yet publicly thanked LEI on here for putting this on, so let me put that right!

It was a great event with 4 races (2 heats, day final and night final). All of them were extremely tricky and a real navigation test. Even after 4 runs within 4hrs in the same 'area' it still felt new and unfamiliar - how many areas would you be able to say that about. In my view, if you're going for non-forest O then this is much better than urban-o. Every leg was a challenge to find the route, remember the route, navigate along the route, keep track of your position along the route and then the relief of finding the control.

My young children enjoyed the mini-maze and my eldest took on the challenge of the main maze (with only a bit of guidance from me!). My wife also said it was a perfect event due to the other non-O games to play, picnic tables in the assembly area and unseasonably good weather (which was specially organised!).

Thanks again LEI - I'm looking forward to next year's already.

What was the story with the Final? It was advertised as a chasing start, but the prizes went to the fastest runners in the Final, rather than the first to finish.

For those of you who are not involved in the CSC final, there is still a chance to enter the Wistow Maize Maze event happening tomorrow afternoon and evening just to the south of Leicester.

Last year's BEE designed maze made for a great event, even though the weather was far too hot. This year we have a new, Olympic themed, maze to test your speed and navigation and the weather forecast is great as well... Entries are open till midnight on Fabian to guarantee a map and you can also turn up and enter on the day.
