Shame that one small minded member of the organising team insisted that two 'very early' start times did not merit a competitive run for the overall competition. He seemed particularly unconcernced that such a decision might contravene one of the fundamental BOF rules, giving the impression that BOF rules don't apply to the White Rose.
" BOF Rule 1.5.1 The spirit of fairness and good fellowship shall be the guiding principle in all aspects of the sport.... "
We've had this one before with the WR. It's not "a small minded member". It''s the club's policy. I was similarly barred a few years ago from receiving a WR prize (not that getting a podium position was ever a reality) by requesting and being given two very early starts - I like to get away from events early, and do something else with the day.
Last time we concluded that in terms of presenting prizes it is the club's right to determine their own rules - whatever misplaced logic may be behind them. In this case they insist on balanced start times. It was clearly stated in the details of the competition.
I gather the rule was introduced as one regular "winner" was repeatedly requesting 2 late starts, which was, reasonably, felt to contravene Rule 1.5.1. The implications for those with 2 early starts is, I guess, a case of the rule of unintended consequences.
Any rate thanks EBOR for a thrououghly enjoyable WR - even if Day 2 left me battered, bruised and exhausted!
