Re: White Rose
There are no specific first aid requirements at events in terms of who or what should be where. The risk assessment may identify specific needs. At the 6 Day we had a team at the finish (where all courses went) but they were not equipped to access the competition area (the ambulance was not 4x4). Mountain rescue teams are volunteers (the coordinator of Oban 2011 was actually the deputy leader) and many have day jobs so cannot be on site. In the event of an emergency we would have tried to deal with it as well as calling 999. To assist us if things did go wrong we put together a rescue plan showing access points, mobile coverage, main officials numbers, walkie talkie issue etc. In many cases (White Rose included) the casualty was near the Start not the Finish but it is unlikely events would have the resource for first aid at the start (in the Scottish 6 Day we had 3 starts on one occasion). Given the circumstances nobody could have done any better at the White Rose. Incidentally I have looked at using paramedics - start looking at £1,000 a day (that's a few pounds more each competitor) if you think we need this as standard.
Fac et Spera. Views expressed are not necessarily those of the Scottish 6 Days Assistant Coordinator

Knowing Colin's much more attractive wife I can tell you all that the casualty was lucky that she came across him as she is both medically knowledgeable and determined. He could not have been in better hands short of a fully qualified doctor or paramedic - I remember how difficult it was to persuade her that I was OK after a twisted ankle at Wallington a few years ago (allright I tore the "wrong ligaments" and was limping for months).
Well done Ro

I wouldn't be too sure - I gather follyfoot has offered to organise it next year.

Go on then, organise your own rival event -see how many entries you get with your 'proper' one!

There's one or two events that have done pretty well as alternatives - Guildford this year and the Purple Thistle in the past.

Re: White Rose - running out of maps.
follyfoot wrote: Having a late start on course Short Blue, i was asked if i could run up to Blue, as they had run out of maps! and i was not last to start. Of course I obliged has there were no other options this being the shortest course from this start. But if i had been lucky enough to being expecting a podium place, then i would not now be eligible or unable to compete at this course.
But you were on the start list for the blue on both days - in the results for the blue both days and even made it on to the podium - so what on earth are you talking about?

According to the flyers at the Guildford event, next August Bank Holiday there should be three urban events in the South: Guildford on Saturday, Basingstoke on Sunday and Didcot on Monday (if I remember correctly).

Re: White Rose
Great sprint event (almost a night sprint event for those that did it on Friday evening in the rain) and suprisingly good classic races. Nice campsite as well. Well done EBOR.
Shame that one small minded member of the organising team insisted that two 'very early' start times did not merit a competitive run for the overall competition. He seemed particularly unconcernced that such a decision might contravene one of the fundamental BOF rules, giving the impression that BOF rules don't apply to the White Rose.
