An elite athlete has to choose this lifestyle (like Harry says)... it's not a particulary healthy, wealthy or wise way to live but it does give you lots of experiences out in the big world! The 'lottery squad' was like a big extended family... not always happy smiling faces but often enough to make it fun & enjoyable to be part of (although different from the parents side that I was on from the kiddies in the squad)...
Ultimately life needs to be fun & enjoyable... get that right, throw in the correct balance of training and support & you are a long way down the road.... but remember, even as a full time athlete you can only orienteer / train for a limited amount each day... the rest of the day needs filling usefully as does the rest of your life once you retire
