At the last WOC individual in Scotland we had to get all the WOC flags (and emit) out and the 6-day flags (and SI) in within an hour. At the same time as shooing the warming-down WOC runners out of the out of bounds areas which weren't marked on their maps. Seemed pretty relevant at the time.

Regading DQs for over-time there were similar concerns raised at the SkiO world champs which also included many "new" nations (ahem ... us).

We had 90 mins max time for sprint (not a problem) and 3 hours for each of Long and Medium. Note that the Long had a winning time of 90-100 mins. Since Our top guys were around double the winner's time and some guys from other nations were slower the fact that inviting countries to travel long distances to compete in events at largely their own expense (only entries and some floor accomodation was paid) the 3 hour cut-off was too harsh for the Long - remember it was also a straight final.

The Event Advisor (presumably in conjuction with the other event officials) announced that the cut-off time would be 4 hours instead. No-one objected at the TL's meeting. ISTR this was after we had already put the team list in though - it would have been better giving us more notice. Most of the other poorer teams left out their poorer guys from the Long because of the presumed 3 hour limit. Congrats to Richard anyway who just sneaked in under the original 3 hour limit.

I agree with Scott it makes no sense to encourage new nations and then kick them in the teeth because they can't get round in time.

World of O reports: "Today’s terrain was in many ways similar to the extreme terrain people have been training on ahead of the championships – but the courses were made in such a way that it was possible to run more than 60-70% of the course on paths and tracks. - This is a guideline given for the qualification races in the World Championships, one of the organizers told when asked about the course layout. – The qualification courses must be made in a way that ensures that all the runners on a lower level also get through."

SO... the IOF has made a big song and dance about bringing as many countries as possible to WOC, ordered compromised courses (which still looked pretty tough to me ) in qualification to accommodate them... and then insisted on dq'ing them anyway.
