Great event, thanks to the organising team. My favourite day was day 3 (although I am heavily swayed by the lack of big mistake as appearing on other days!) I really liked the idea of the big screen - it was very good in this event and can see it being excellent with some polishing up.
Thanks also to the many who helped me in various ways after my luggage was temporarily mislaid by the airline including offers of rooms, tents, cups of tea and relaying of messages from campsite to event to clubmates to me.
And yet more thanks to those giving lifts to and from events to those on foot, including me, more often than not wet and carrying bags full of replacement possessions and/or magazines. I thought that the transport arrangements seemed pretty smooth and well done.
It was warming to see so many offering help and improved my experience immensely! There seemed to be a genuinely nice atmosphere at the events (perhaps a little lacking at the event centre which did not genuinely feel "central") which I did not notice at O-Ringen. Some bias naturally given my nationality but I'd like to think that the foreigners also experienced the warmth and friendliness of the 6 day, particularly with the international feel given by the commentary?!
I look forward to the next one...

Tried to post a comment on the 6 days website comments page but it wouldn't let me
Great event and a lot of hard work put in, but have to agree that the scoring system is too unfair when there can be literally seconds between several placings then minutes to the next ones. Surely the only fair way is to base the scores on times?

I love the scoring system.
Every event is a race and with this system you know that every second might count. You get rewarded according to how well you do each day - you don't get a shedful of points because on a day with big variations you happen to have a cracking good run - you win the day - you get the credit. Whereas on an easy day you may only be a short time behind, but if 20 people beat you then that reflects your performance.
No this system is not the only "fair"system, but neithe is one based on time. It is simply THE system chosen for this event, and personally I think it's brilliant.

So true.
The 'old' system was hard to understand (unless you're a statistician) so I think people didn't complain so much because they couldn't see the flaws so easily. Now because it's so simple people see the flaws and thus complain more! No system is fair other than adding up time over the course of the days, but there are good reasons why it isn't the system used at the 6 day (apart from the elites of course, which is why it is used for the elite competition)

I looked the new system too it was very easy to work out where you needed to be to improve your score which coupled with the Wifi on the last day made it pretty exciting. Although the penalty aspect for not completing a day may need adjusting. Uses you use an everey day counts total time system like the oringen then this is better - it certainly made me try harder

I think we've had the discussion about scoring previously and concluded that any system has its flaws. But you enter an event in full knowledge of what you have to do to win it (with the possible expection of my mate who once turned up to a duathlon without a bike
) so complaining about it is pretty pointless.
I had a quick look at the situation with me and my great rival 180min man on M40L.
I finished the week 5 places ahead of him.
The difference between us was 12 points.
Working out the times it was roughly 5-6 mins so very close in terms of overall performance.
However to overhaul me on points 180min man would have had to finish 12 places higher than he did on day 6, which would have equated to a time difference of 20minutes. I am sure the system would in some cases have the opposite effect (we were near the back of the field for example where times were more spread out as a rule). The point being you play to the rules of the particualr event you are in.

A quick one from me on the ("my") scoring system...
In an event when you want to select your "best" 4 scores from 6 runs you need some sort of measure of "goodness". The six-day system uses "how many people beat me" as this measure. There are other measures available but they are so hidden in the stats that often the inaccuracy is obscured. The BOF rankings are about as sophisticated a system you could have in the opposite (time based) direction - and see how many times people can find anomalies in them!
If you don't like being penalised for being a few seconds behind someone then run a few seconds faster and prove you are better than them!
Right, back to sprint geeking. Oh, is that the team masseuse calling?
