Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
I thought that this needed to go on a new thread - the deserved appreciation from competitors should not be hidden away under a different topic. To the incredible bunch of folk who took on the major tasks to put on such a fabulous showpiece event, "thanks" is a totally inadequate word. What a week!

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
Seconded. Absolutely.
I did wonder whether I should have posted my appreciation in a separate thread rather than as part of the car parking discussion, but it did seem more relevant there as it seemed as though the organisers were under attack from some quarters.
As I said there, just thinking about the logistics of the event brings about near panic in me, and I think that we are so fortunate in having so many talented people willing to put the effort in to make the 6-Days a reality every two years. That extends from the directors, planners and controllers right down to the team of young ladies next to me who operated the "colour-coded EOD desk" on day 1 - I'm guessing their ages ranged from 5-ish to 12-ish, but they handled their customers with great skill, patience and courtesy!
Thank you to every person who contributed to making the week a success!

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
As someone who has attended every 6-days since '79 and helped at some I think the event works because of 3 things - Firstly the experience off 15-30+ years of many of the main officials, secondly the breaking of the work-load down into many smaller, manageable tasks and thirdly the involvement of a professional officer who can handle many of the time-consuming tasks.
I'd like to thank all the hundreds of people who helped - Scottish club members, other orienteers who volunteered (or were asked) to help out, the land-owners and farmers who were fantastic in their involvement and enthusiasm and finally the competitors who turned up and accepted the occasional hitch mostly with good humour and calm acceptance.
Look ing forward to Moray 2013 already.
......(but before that Scottish Champs 2012, 4 days, 5 events all in beautiful Royal Deeside 2-5th June 2012 - book accommodation now!)

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
Having attended all the 6 Days, this was a very enjoyable one. I thought the car park officials did an amazing job, especially the tricky arrangments on Days 4 and 5. Enjoyed all the areas, although I didn't particularly like Day 5. Many thanks to all the volunteers. It makes the hours we put in for our club seem very small. Here's looking forward to Moray 2013 - cottage already booked

Fans of the six day will be interested in John Colls’ book.

I bought a copy rather out of obligation, as it is quite pricey and I find this sort of thing worthy but dull. In fact it's really nicely compiled, presented and written, with a great collection of maps. (and I liked being described as "a classic of the genre"

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
We would very much like to add our thanks to everyone involved in the event. The Six Days Event is always eagerly anticipated and it always appears to run seamlessly with very good cheer. We had a lovely week in Oban, enjoying the tourism as well as the orienteering. I certainly got my money's worth most days and had a number of 'learning runs' (Lagganlia speak for bad runs!) which is a reason why there are just a few photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wendles56/sets/72157627379813330/
Let me know if you would like me to send any on.

Roomungous - you need to have a look at Wendles' pics because there is a good one of you on page 4 - don't you like steep downhills?
Everyone, please don't forget that all Chris Spencer's photos are accessible through the results pages and he is keen to share them with you. Chris, who has run, planned and controlled at S6Ds in the past, was out in the areas everyday and there are loads of photos.
Wendles can I have the one of me in the commentary box please?

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
As ever an excellent week, thoroughly enjoyed all the open hillside bits and, retrospectively, enjoyed the vague contours and vegetation bits of Ardnastie and Creag Mhic! Looking forward to Moray 2013 - building block to taking on the spectator races at WOC '15
After helping at the Harvester I sort of realise what it takes to put on a bigish event, so have complete respect for the S6D organisers and volunteers.
Excellent photos Wendles - PM'd you regards a couple.
Also excellent photos from the official photographer - he even managed to make me look like I was enjoying myself during my horrendous Day5 (the lady behind me is smiling as I make a comment about how much I was hating it)!
Someone on Day3 download was taking photos of the finish and said he got a good one of me falling on my @r$€ whilst punching the finish control - if it was you/anyone finds it on their internet travels could I have a link/copy please? I like the irony that my sit-down after 150mins on Creag Mhic was entirely by fluke!

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
This was our first Scottish 6 Days, and to us it was quite a big challenge. We thought it was great! Our sincere thanks to all involved, particularly the person who figured out how to get rid of the midges!
See you all next time.

It was probably someone I know (whose wife posts on nope occasionally!) so I'll give him a nudge. They'll probably put lots of photos on the esoc gallery, link from our site: http://esoc.org.uk/

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Thank You
There are 2 new pages that people might like to contribute to on the Scottish 6 Days website.
Photo Links, where you can send me links to online galleries containing photos from the week.
Comments, where you can leave any comments you have about the event, good or bad. But we reserve the right to delete comments that are considered abusive.
Thanks for all the supportive comments I received during the event.

We do have loads of general photos, as well as ESOC ones - will post a link here (as well as sending it to Paul) once they're uploaded.

Thanks for adding the link Paul. Chris's photos are a fantastic record of the people and the event, and a great advert for the sport too. I've just noticed that mine on flickr are a guess the O-Tops competition as once again the heads are chopped off!

Good guess at the ages of the "team of young ladies", however the youngest insists that she is given her rightful age of six years old

The young ladies were a huge help and worked all 7 days with similar skill and enthusiasm.
