For those that haven't seen yet the planned car parking for day 5 has been lost and the reserve is up to 4km walk to assembly - making a total of up to 10km round trip including walks to start.
The organisers are busting a gut to make things as easy as possible but the road is narrow and not good for mixing cars an pedestrians. So far they have offered to take club tents from Day 4 to Day 5 and on to Day 6.
We have two kids 3 and 5, only one buggy and split starts - unless we can persuade the 5 year old to walk 8km we can't both run.
However if transport or a car park for family's with young kids could be arranged very early (say 8.30) before there are many walking to first starts and leaving late after most have gone home, then we'd make a day of it.
Anyway best of luck to the organisers - it looks like a brilliant event with the usual high standards and some new ideas on top.

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
The Central Organising Team has now taken over the job of getting competitors to the assembly field, leaving the day organising team to concentrate on the rest.
Several people have been visiting the site today to investigate options and we hope to have a resolution in the next few days.

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
There was a meeting today including some very novel options (never done before in an orienteering event to my knowledge) - things will be discussed with the day organiser on Thu but we are confident that we can do away with the issues outlined above.

Well done for all your efforts. I bet you all wish you just did road running or something easy to organise. Orienteering is a horribly complex and stressful sport at times.

Don't leave us in suspense! What are the details? A ferry across the river? We are travelling up this weekend, so information be useful beforehand.

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
This is quite exciting - I wonder what the solution will be - perhaps we should open a small book on it - what's your bet?
Personally I'm hoping for a massive working party to re-inforce the ford crossing the An Sailean. Then they could make a film about it in the manner of "The Scotsman who waded across the river and came back across a road"
I would like to nominate Gerard Butler to be take the lead roll.

With all the intrigue and suspense it must be a real epic - maybe like Moses escaping from Egypt by parting the Red Sea!

I've just asked Colin if he's considered Star Trek style transporters but I'm thinking zip lines and rope ladders.

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

We were considering using bikes on day 5, so it'd be nice to know if what they come up with is suitable or not before we get there.

Surely it's got to be Billy Connolly!

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
Mind you if you did use CH47 it might stop people complaining about cost of entry fees:
"At engine start, for a typical Chinook mission, the aircraft has approximately 1,068 gallons (6,600 pounds) of fuel on board. On the mission, the helicopter will consume approximately 940 gallons, or 6,300 pounds of fuel. At $3.15 a gallon for jet juice, that's $2961.00 a flight just for the fuel."

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
Mrs H you are pretty close to one of the options. Bikes are also an option for Day 5 (in theory you could bike every day - one of my predecessors said he was considering this and it wasn't Scott or Donald).
