Has anyone out there figured out how to use a French medical certificate to enter more than one event in France in a year?
I've just run in O'bivwak (great event), and been messed about by organisers who don't know what they're doing. First they said I had to show my medical certificate at registration; then at registration they took it off me and said I could recover it at the end of the event; then at the end of the event they said I had to send an email and they would take a scan and post the certificate back to me; now they're saying they can't do that and I should have asked for it at the end of the event (which I did).
So it looks as though I am going to have to pay my GP for a second French medical certificate in order to run in the O Festival in Chambery. On top of having to pay the non-members entry fee ("because there isn't any agreement between BOF and FFCO"), I'm getting really sick of the admin involved in running in French events.

Why don't you just take several photo-copies of your medical certificate and hand one of those over at each event? If they demand to see the original, maybe you can show them that, but tell them they can't take it away.

I always take a photocopy - never had a problem with this. B and W is best as it hides where you have changed the date.

Or simply produce your own medical certificate.
easily available as and when you need it
cost a couple of pence to print

Back in 2009 I created a blank certificate that you can get your doctor to sign.
Possibly best to get a few original copies done at the time in case organisers are picky.
You can find it here on the Scottish Orienteering website

Never remember having to do so for the French 5-days in Aveyron in 2008.

Re: French medical certificates for more than one event
Most French sporting events ask for them and in audax circles for the Paris Brest Paris ride there is always grumbling about the lack of enthusiasm British GPs have for signing these forms, generally because of the worry that if someone does drop dead during the event families may be looking for someone to blame and a GP who signed a "fit to go" form may be a handy scapegoat. Some GPs have insisted on people having private ECGs before they'll sign the form to prove they did more than just look at the fit looking bloke in front of them.
Making people sign a form saying that they think they are fit to do the event, like in the UK, is more sensible.

The alternative is to get a "licence" from your governing body. I always managed to get away with showing them my BOF Membership card. Mind you that was for French Mountain Marathons (Raids), although they do operate under French O Federation rules.
You never know it might be worth a try!
