Yvette Baker trophy
I have heard that in 2013 the Yvette baker final is moving to July. Anyone know why? I think with some schools finishing term early and exam students off on travels that this will deplete teams.

A winter final is pretty miserable for a team event. Rarely has the weather for hanging around in. Neither is it the best time of year for long distance travel, with limited daylight.

Not if it is at the start of July, which it might well be if the JIRC is moving elsewhere. The YBT doesn't have the issue of Scots breaking up early, as the JIRC does, as it's an English competition. Some exam students may be off early*, but the proportion will be small, and if dates are known, it shouldn't be a major issue. December was only chosen because nowhere else in the calendar was available, and it has long been recognised that there are all sorts of issues with travel etc at that time of the year.
*At our local schools, this could only apply to year 13s, as the other years are expected to be back in school starting the following year's work.

July has to be a hell of a lot better than December.
Weekend before end of term should be ideal.

JIRCs have moved to 28th/29th September 2013. The same weekend as most of the second year M/W18s will be starting university. Perhaps not such a good choice of date.

Having the honour of the first July final in 2013, we've already earmarked this as a key issue and have arranged for a special 'vegetation management' team to ensure that the area chosen is as runnable as can be at this time of year..watch this space

Re: Yvette Baker trophy
It's always a nightmare trying to schedule these events for juniors.
Our YBT heat is slap-bang in the middle of half term holidays so we are struggling to put a team together. At the moment we don't event have the minimum 9 to make it worth going. So we're not really bothered about the date of the Final!
