The Scottish Champs are being held in Deeside in 2012 and by tying them in with the Diamond Jubilee weekend we are offering 4 superb days of orienteering:
2nd - Glen Feardar; Scottish Individual Championships (National event)
3rd - Creag Choinnich; Scottish Relays
4th - Banchory; urban sprint event (starts late afternoon) Level C
5th - Inchmarnoch; middle distance race Level C
See Maroc website for old maps: http://www.marocscotland.org.uk/home/maps/
The long weekend will be based in Braemar and we hope to be able to offer a campsite (in the famous Highland Games field), a series of social events at the Braemar village hall. One day (2 if a keen cyclist!) is within cycling distance, one within walking distance and the other 2 easily driven to along good, quiet roads.
WOC selection races are likely to be held as part of the races, so there will be a top class elite entry.
As well as the orienteering there is also the royal connection - Royal Deeside and the Diamond Jubilee, Balmoral castle is open to visitors, other castles (many in NTS care) are within easy visiting distance, a distillery, hill walking, mountaineering, skiing 9for the hardy!, woodland walks, golf, fishing (expensive salmon and cheaper ponds!) and many more activities.
Put the dates in your diaries and watch Nopesport, BO and SOA websites and CompassSport for more information.

Jon omitted to mention that the dates are in June. Should be a cracking weekend.

Sounds fantastic Jon - with a bit of luck the urban event will make it into the Nopesport league and the middle into the Masters cup........

Sorry - editing problems! It is June 2nd to 5th as Lindsay noted.
With regard to Nopesport urban league and masters cup - we're aiming to put on quality orienteering events, not get tied into formats that don't suit us. if these other leagues fit in with our event we'll happily host them, otherwise not.

Yeah - I was kidding about the NUL really - but the middle distance area looks quality!

The current version of the UKMC is designed to do exactly that, so would look like a good match up potentially. Of course, that all depends on BO not deciding to change it unilaterally, in which case I've no idea.

Re: Scottish Champs 2012
There is some talk about making SOC 2012 into a World Ranking Event and possibly a "National Orienteering League" event.
Given that these additions will likely carry some extra administrative burden can people let me know if these additions will affect their decision to come to Deeside (and run in some of the best terrain of 2012). If there looks to be a significant increase in interest there is a greater chance of the organisers accepting these add-ons.

It looks like a very exciting weekend in Royal Deeside in June 2012!
I see that SEOA and SWOA are also planning Jubilee Weekends of orienteering, but no details on event formats and venues yet. Any rumours?

From the draft SEOA minutes
Jubilee Weekend 2012 (2-5th June 2012)
The programme will be;
GO Guildford University; permission not yet confirmed (level C event)
SO Oldhouse Warren – (long) (Level B event)
LOK Holmbury Hill – (Middle) (Level C event)
MV Balcombe – Score event (Level D event)
The first three days will be South East Championship events.

Not sure how relevant those will be to my level of competitiveness, but I'd definitely be more likely to stay on for all 4 days if (for example) the middle distance event was a masters cup event.......

Re: Scottish Champs 2012
Masters' Cup and NUL inclusion could be crucial to our decision where to go - anyone from the SW going to tempt us with an outline of what's on offer and where?

Given this, it is inconceivable that it won't be in the UK Cup (Scott?). Since BOF plan to combine the events, that will put it in the Master's Cup (National League, Windscale/Sellafield trophy, House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha/Windsor quaich, or whatever it's called then).
I can't help you with your NUL points though.
Coming soon
Boston City Race (May, maybe not)

I'm not really the man to ask, but if the UK Cup continues in the same format then I'd certainly imagine that the WOC Selection Races would be included.
As a member of two of the three "Competition Groups", I have very little idea what is happening with the new National League.
