Does nopesport help?
So I was wondering in terms of the participation conundrum do you think nopesport helps in attracting new young members to the sport...

nopesport stopped attracting young members around 3 or 4 years ago, the junior section lay dormant for a long time before it was canned!
nope's still good for the odd moan though

Re: Does nopesport help?
Nopesport was certainly set up by the more youthful part of the orienteering community but whether it specifically appealed to youthful orienteers I'm not so sure. It's certainly well populated now by "old men on committees" like myself. Is there a newer medium that is more youth orientated? Although I'm quite rightly barred from accessing my childrens' facebook pages, and have ignored the hundreds of people claiming to want to be my "friend" I suspect that facebook is no longer the preserve of the young. Perhaps the young orienteers of today are communicating between themselves in ways that we don't know about. At least I hope that they are.

That depends if you're talking about Nopesport the Forum or Nopesport the Urban League or Nopesport the Purple Thistle etc. "No" if it's the former and "Yes definitely" for the latter. The Edinburgh race in January didn't seem short of 18-35s (almost 140 on the long course).

Glad we're not the only ones! (But agree on the 'rightly').

Re: Does nopesport help?
I don't think young people will have heard of nopesport, unless they are already participating in the sport. I discovered it after reading about it in an attackpoint forum post, which one of the club members wrote about in our newsletter.
I often do not post on here because I don't want to be a pain, seasoned orienteers know the answers, and loads of posts relate to events that I will never get too. My teenagers do not use the forum because there is no ability to chat to their friends.

Re: Does nopesport help?
There is possibly the need to set up a special forum area for "old men on committees" so we can reminisce about what it was like when we were M21s. Them were the days - none of these bright coloured tops or new fangled electronic punching things etc etc

Are you? I'm not; I must have extremely liberal and tolerant kids (and nephews/nieces/great-nephews and nieces)!

Edit: I must stress that I have access to my own family youngsters pages, not yours

They obviously haven't reached the age yet where you really don't want to know what they are up to!

My children are 18 and 20 so I suspect they have passed that age. I also suspect that some of the things they post are deliberately designed as a wind-up!

At least I hope they are wind-ups!
As a family we are pretty widespread, both within the UK and internationally, stretching from Perth, Scotland to Perth, WA (and beyond!). It is a good way of keeping in touch, although some of the things certain younger members post...

Oh, and some of them occasionally delete some of the uncool comments their dear uncle Alan posts - I get the impression that I seriously embarrass them in front of their friends.

facebook (you just have to look at the 'event' that SYO have created for BOC this year to see that it is will used) and probably attackpoint
both have more private options than nope (there may even be some private boards on here).
