It really isn't that difficult, is it?
If a wall is only to be crossed at marked crossing points can planners/controllers make sure that the wall is highlighted with a thick purple line and that "Use marked crossing point" appears in the control descriptions.
These simple procedures seem to be forgotten time and time again, it's rather disappointing and frustrating that such simple things are forgotten.

Re: Uncrossable walls...
It might be worth adding that it is worth making the thick purple line a different purple (but same colour mix) from that used for the other purple features, so that black features can be shown over it. A thick purple line can be used over a number of different features. You need to be able to see which.
The written command Use the Crossing Point in descriptions is fine if there are only a few crossing points. In places like the Yorkshire Dales it would become highly tedious and make extremely long description sheets! There are other solutions.

Re: Uncrossable walls...
Yes it is difficult... According to the details (not available to EODers
), the wall on 3-4 (Black) was crossable, but the same wall on 26-27 was uncrossable. And there isn't a symbol for "crossable in one direction only".
Anyway, shouldn't leave without saying how much I enjoyed the course today: nice map, nice area, lots of variety even if there wasn't really any option for long legs. Soooo glad I ran black though: 44min winning time on M45"Long": what's all that about?.

If you "overprint" the purple line (which you are supposed to) then you can see the underlying feature through it. Whilst most everyday 4-colour printers won't do this, the best ones will (e.g. I'm pretty sure Alan at print5 can do overprinting).

The other option is to put the purple on the base map rather than the overprint - you can create an OCAD symbol for "uncrossable wall" which uses both purple and black, this ensures the purple is underneath and that it exacly follows the line of the wall.

That's a good idea. The old Glentress map does exactly that for paths which are downhill MTB trails, albeit 50% purple I think.

I doubt it, unless the printer being used is an off-set litho! - what happens is that the planner or the printer moves the purple over-print down layers so the back wall symbol is printed "above" it and appears on the map rather than being obscured by the higher colour.

I think we are just going to have to beg to differ on this one Big Jon. I believe it is entirely possible to simulate overprinting with a 4-colour printer (not offset litho). I accept that this isn't what will happen if you print direct from OCAD to a normal 4-colour printer, but I still believe it is possible e.g. if you export from OCAD in Color EPS or Adobe Illustrator format and then print those files using suitable software and printer. But I'll check with Alan.

Re: Uncrossable walls...
you can just make the purple overprint transparent and then you can see what is underneath anyway - works on my cheap home printer....

Re: Uncrossable walls...
There are lots of ways of doing it, but the important thing is it gets done.
MDOC had gone to the effort of constructing some very good crossing-points out of ladders, but the final details and final overprint completely contradicted themselves, and it seems every time you had a leg that crossed a wall/fence the design changed.
Wall in the woods:
1st crossing = line broken + crossing points marks; therefore uncrossable
2nd crossing = line solid + crossing points; therefore crossable (same wall, 200m round the corner)
3rd crossing (same crossing points as 2nd) = line broken + crossing points, therefore uncrossable... despite being the same 2 crossing points there were crossable in the other direction.
Fence to the hill:
1st & 3rd crossing = line broken, no crossing points shown (but some stiles)
2nd & 4th crossing = line broken, bent to one of many stiles, no crossing points shown
Thoroughly confusing, and could have easily been prevented by the controller.
I don't want to cause access permission to be withdrawn due to damage to walls, but if I don't know which ones I can cross then it's very difficult.
