Maps can get printed and delivered within two days from any printer in the country. There seems no reason for such an early closing date.

Closing date this weekend even thought he event is a month off. It will be worth it. I'm just a bit worried as to how I can explain away the FVO top I received last night when appearing back in the North East.

As we've all developed a resistance to the "interesting" clothing you wear I suspect it won't matter too much - if you like I'll debut my new day-glo orange top and fluorescent yellow tracksters to distract people.

To those worried about the entry situation -as we have 360 plus entries recorded by fabian it is obviously happening - and don't want to commit may I suggest you email the organiser (contact details on the website & link in one of my previous posts above) so as he can be aware of the potential numbers?

I agree. I am only the Planner but was informed that a 21 day lead time was needed for the litho printing. I am not totally happy about what I have been told but that's it at the moment unless NATO sees fit to think again.

I agree with Andy (apart from comments on my choice of clothing) that if you think you will be entering get your emails in so we can get a good estimate of numbers for printing.

Of the 362 entered, 123 are on Day 1 and 239 on Day 2 (presumably most of those doing day 1 are also doing day 2) so not great for a level A event.

Do not despair. I did pre-entries for our club 2 weeks ago and we had 59 pre-entries with 3 days to the closing date. We ended up with 184 (no doubt helped by an appeal on Nopesport). On that percentage basis you'll be fine, although I do agree that a closing date a month before is a bit OTT. I can see the organiser spending rather a lot of time dealing with late-entry e-mails.

To avoid us clueless Southerners embarrassing ourselves, could somebody clarify the correct pronunciation of "Demesne"? Based on half-remembered school history lessons I would guess "dee-main", but I'm fair from certain...

Based upon the way we used to pronounce the word when at school, I can confirm that it is pronounced as you guess.

I attended Demesne County Infants, Langley, Middleton (near Manchester) many years ago.

As organiser can I make things perfectly clear. The closing date has been and remains the 24th March!
The first closing date (i.e. for a cheap entry) is Monday night 28th February.
This date was obtained based on a lead time from the (at the time) the only accredited printer. It was put to [u]both planner [/u]and control to gainsay which neither did.

As Chairman of NATO, I would like to make a few things clear. The Closing date for entries is the 24th March. We would appreciate people not leaving it till the end, so we can gauge Map Numbers. In this day and age, where we are trying to keep costs to a minimum and wastage of printed maps, it is easier if we know how many people are intending to come before we actually go to print.
The Weekend is shapely up to be a fantastic weekend of Orienteering. The Saturday Sprint will be taking in Leazes Park and the planner has a few tricks up his sleeve including using St James Park (Home to Newcastle United Football Team). Sunday's event on Ray Demense promises to be a great event with Colin Matheson as Planner.
For those of you that came to the North East for the JK in 2009, remember the great weather we had. Can't promise it to be the same again but here's hoping. A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes for this event, and it would be great to see so many of you Orienteers competing up here. Get your entries in and make a long weekend of it. Plenty of places to stay and places to visit whilst you're up here.

As Planner (of what to me is now a southern championships) all I want is lots of people to turn up and enjoy their run. Yesterday I taped the last of the 31 crossing points (you do go in and out of the woods a lot!). You heard what the men said so get these entries in as soon as possible please.

It might just be me, but typing the grid reference NT988857 for the Sunday event from the final details into OS Get a Map puts me somewhere in the North Sea off Berwick!
