Our spam bots are getting very interesting these days - more interesting than some of our human members - I like Johntoh's picture in the travel forum and I only wish I had the answer to Johnlesse's question in UK Cup

Hope no-one ever clicks any URL's on such spam. I've read that such links sometimes go to websites that can do bad things to your computer, like instal spyware.

I think it's searching forums elsewhere on the web for posts with similar subjects, copying their text and reposting them here. Pretty clever, as these things go.

A bit of spam can be entertaining (as well as dangerous if there are dodgy links or attachments) but now there seems to be more spam than real postings. Come on moderators, sort it out. Maybe you need to block all new accounts while you sort out a better test?

Give us a break, have a life to live outside of nope y'know. Most spam appears overnight, I delete as soon as I see it. If anyone would like to help moderate the boards get in touch.

If anyone is stupid enough to click on any of the links, let alone most of the topics, then tbh that is their problem. I'm always surprised when the obvious spam topics have multiple views.

Will see if we can get some wagon wheels exported to Norge to see if pyrat can do some board upgrades to try & combat a bit more.

The spam bots seems to be pretty intelligent..

They have to enter a recaptcha captcha http://www.google.com/recaptcha and also confirm their account via email.

Email confirmation is easy to automate, but the recaptcha stuff is almost impossible to do with a bot. Either the bots are insanely advanced, or there are humans employed to type in these captchas en mass.

Manual approval of new accounts is not an option due to the moderator overhead in doing so.

Will trawl through the logs if it gets really bad to check if there is another way in that the bots are using.

If I look at a new posting and see it is spam, I report it. Should I not bother?
