HH and OD competed at the SCOA qualifier
- and no I don't understand

Any club can compete in any heat. The number of qualifiers from each heat basically depends on the number of clubs competing in that heat*. If at the end of all the heats there is no club from an association, then the best placed club from that association qualifies. This was originally set up to give clubs flexibility in choosing heats whilst not leaving other clubs disadvantaged.

*Extra clubs can go through if the qualifying club(s) finished in the top few in the previous year - aimed at preventing one club consistently dominating an association heat, and giving other clubs a chance. It's a rule that CS Cup later adopted too.

What a great result for LOC & Sarum.
What time did they set off this am? I make it a 3 1/2 hr & 2 1/2 hr journey respectively. They are probably both still on the way home now.

Why is this comp not rotated around the country like other major comps? Teams such as LOC, Sarum, Devon, Aire etc are always going to be at a disadvantage.They will never have the opportunity of running in familiar terrain and always be expecte to run after a long, tiring journey. This cannot be a level playing field.

If you check you will find that there is a rota that takes this event round all the English Associations. 2011 - YHOA, 2012 - SWOA, unless this has now changd since I left Fixtures Group.

Of course I could have looked for info, but as usual Nopesport members are much quicker and better informed.

That makes things fairer! However, has any thought been given to arranging a weekend of events with the YTB final on the Sun? Is it reasonable for clubs at opposite ends of the country to travel such long distances for one run?

I realise accomodation could be a problem, but clubs could 'sell' the event to their juniors if there were 2/3 things to take part in. Most of the juniors in the YBT will be running down from their usual course. An event on Sat would be a bonus.

Many thanks to the organisers for todays event, and well done to OD for winning again.

The juniors climbed onto the LOC bus at 7am, and were unloaded at 7pm, with a four hour journey time each way - coming second certainly made for a happy bus back North. I think moving the final around the regions is the correct approach, but it does mean that clubs like LOC do have to consider where the final is being hosted before deciding whether to compete. This is especially true with the final normally only being a couple of weeks after BSOC.

It will be interesting to see what proposals the Competitions Review put forward around this time of year.
