How come W50 and 35 are getting points as SVW? Thought that category was 55+?

Having seen how many people failto get their due ranking points presumably due to the BOF number being absent, I decided not to key the UK Masters on BOF number. It does clearly mean that I have to give it a visual checkover to try to identify name spelling errors. However it also means I will sometimes be able to get results out more quickly.

It was a conscious decision - we'll see how it goes but for round 1 I was over a week ahead!

Good point: by midnight and the eighth Category, the Human Eye v1.0 that was being deployed to identify and exclude ineligible competitors was getting a bit tired. The process should be automated in due course, but having started from scratch on late Sunday afternoon I was quite pleased to get upload and display working in a couple of evenings.

The results are now fixed. Let me know if there's anything else wrong.

A weekend's ColdFusion hacking (one of the 'benefits', I suppose, of my being unable to run at present) has produced a organiser's direct CSV upload and automatic updating of the tables.

The required format is:

BOFnumber,UrbanLeagueCategory,Forename,Lastname,AgeClass,Club,Time
e.g. (with fictional BOF numbers)
100999,WSV,Sue,Stevens,W55,AIRE,45:32
100998,WSV,Amelia,Petrie,W55,CLYDE,46:15

Any line that does not have a BOF number will be ignored in the points calculation, as will lines where the age-class does not match one of those that are assigned to the Urban League Category.

Club and age-class will be reset the first time a given BOF number is used in each calendar year. Any category in any race can be re-uploaded and the points will be recalculated.

Although there's quite a lot of error trapping and I've done a quick pre-test for race 2, I'll do the Glasgow upload to check that all is working OK; thereafter my input should be needed only to set up the races at the start of the season. So if the organisers can manage to produce and upload a seven-field CSV file, Edinburgh should be Eddie's last win. (Well, I've got to get my competitive kicks somehow...)

Don't bet on it Roger. You are relying on organisers sending you the data in a set format. As one requirement when setting up the UK Masters Cup was that the organisers would have no additional workload I decided I'd take the data in whatever format I could get it.
I therefore have some manual pasting, but most of the tables calculations are automatic.
Therefore I can get on with it as soon as the results are published somewhere on the web. Sometimes that will happen before you get your file. I also have to wait for BOF to put them up on their website.
Clearly you're going to win by miles when I'm away and not online.

Duncan clearly has direct access to upload to the BOF site. I had me results ready before him but can only wait until they are uploaded

Occurred to me at lunchtime that of the national leagues, the UK Masters Cup scores are being maintained by Eddie (JOK), UK Cup by Duncan (JOK), Nopesport Urban League by me (JOK) and the UK Relay League by Scott (JOK). I reckon that's just the FCC to go for a grand slam.

Then I thought about the sponsor of the CompassSport Cup, three people whom I knew to be on the rankings working party and one who probably should have been...

This sounds like a lot of duplication of effort. Wouldn't it be great if British Orienteering provided a public API for the scorers to use? Something like the Facebook Graph:

This sounds like a lot of duplication of effort.

As the processing has hitherto largely been manual, it's more of a sharing of effort. However, I'd gladly add an extra column to a few database tables if my fellow-calculators would like to use the shiny new Urban League system. (Once it's been proved to work!)

Deciding to use BOF number as the key wasn't only a labour-saving device: I was all too aware of the times in the last couple of years when I'd missed duplicates.
