Excellent video. Best I've ever seen about orienteering. Modern publicity ones could take a leaf out of their book! Fun to spot faces as well
A very enjoyable start to a lovely sunny day.

I haven't re-watched it yet, but Tim Tett's infamous quote always makes me smile.

Thanks for the link.
Well composed video and interesting to see the old pin punching method.

Cool - I was wondering about tracking that down for part of a club O-film fest.
Marky - would it be possible to get a copy of the original video from John ?
I still remember the weekend and the first time we got to watch the video - classic Tim.

Brings back memories. Doesn't everyone look young? Who was the third member of the SHUOC team with Mark Chapman and Steve?
I remember that my HOC team was the strongest we ever had, but one guy woke up and decided to stay in bed
He never even bothered to tell us.

Well done NOC for getting this published.
We showed the video at our Freshers social that autumn and I remember at the time being impressed by club-mate Dave McIntyre's smooth control flow (at 4:00 in part 2). True, he doesn't have to consult the map on the way out but compared to electronic punching it just looks so slow.

Someone ought to show that to the current powers that be at the Forestry Commission just to remind them of a few things.

Re: British Orienteering Relays 1985
Nice to catch a glimpse of my old University tutor DR Peter Hubberstey (long before orienteering for me- I was still into playing with the oval ball then) . I really must get to see him again (I know he was still active with NOC last year even though it is over 30 years since he taught me) now I spend the majority of my time in the Midlands. (anyone want to pm me with a contact method?)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: British Orienteering Relays 1985
Peter is still active in NOC. If you send me your details I will pass them to him or maybe come to Clipstone on 13/2 and meet up with him again. Mind you Clipstone is not as good as it was in 1985 when it was at it's best. Peter and John Orton planned the event and I assisted them before the event and on the day test running courses and putting out controls. It was straight line all the way then and no brambles! We had to rebuild the first controls after the first leg runners went through and flattened them.
I also remember camping out in the marquee, sleeping on a table!, the night before the event with Alan Gould sleeping in his car. In the early hours the local yobs were driving/tearing up and down the road doing handbrake turns! It kept us awake for a few hours which isn't the best preparation for putting on a large event. I remember helping John Bailey dig up several tree stumps so no one tripped on the run in.
I think it has to be NOC's best event ever helped by the very mature runnable forest. I doubt we will ever see Clipstone that good again.

I'd rather be orienteering in a Scottish Forest.
