I did a screen scrape and constructed a map search url in the form

The final Select column doesn't reveal anything

Re: The New BOF Website
I do not like how the dynamic multiple level menu works, pushing down the content when the additional levels are displayed. It would be better if they dropped in to some free space.
I agree - it's awful.
Maybe there is a reason that no other website I can think of works like that.
I think the lesson to be learned might be that if you are shown some whizbang designery feature that will be "unique" to the site, then reject it.

It shouldn't - that's the page you get for selecting the map when you register an event. But it can indeed serve as a substitute for the map database - good find!

Re: The New BOF Website
The Map database is well up the shoot - as sadly is the map registation process. I registered some maps in the Autumn, one I got an email back with the number, but it failed to appear on the list, the others just disappeared.
The thing is its important as it confirms your insurance. I know mapping is a very low risk activity to 3rd parties but lets be honest there is alwayus a slight chance of accidentally leaving a gate unsecured with livestock escaping and causing an accident - I'd like to be insured.

You have had a better response than me then. I've sent an MR1 (mapping form, twice) to head office and received no response at all; sadly

Re: The New BOF Website

Re: The New BOF Website
I've just been onto the fixtures list to see my opportunities for this weekend and all the boxes apart from Event Name and postcode have vanished (probably an IE6 thing?)
Fortunately as it was only a short while ahead didn't take long to find what I was looking for

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

I think you're right - an IE6 thing. I get the same with IE6, Firefox is fine.

Works OK with IE8.
However, when I try to login to Nopesport, I always get told I've exceeded the max no of attempts (even though I haven't tried at all) and it then always rejects my verification entry on the 1st go and accepts it 2nd. Weird!

Re: The New BOF Website
I've solved the loking at older results problem by altering the "perpage" number to something rather large in the URL.
The Scottish Champs results disappeared altogethr, but as I note they have come back I guess all sorts of things are being addressed all the time.

Re: The New BOF Website
just looked at this for the first time
Its awfull
the old one had form and interest, an instant impression of dynamism
this is dull,
literally square,
reams of text
Oh and lets stick a few tiny little thumbnails along the top.
It would not make me interested in finding out more about orienteering at all.
the "find a club" picture is horrible (pity about Scotland too)

Re: The New BOF Website
The site would benefit from being more dynamic, especially if you want to engage newcomers to the sport, who are searching for information and inspiration. Currently, it's very text heavy. Why not have some video content on the homepage? Maybe a link to a YouTube video on why orienteering is fun? That said, when you click through to the Newcomers page, you do have 'DVD footage'. However, this is a download, rather than playing on the site! Why not upload it to YouTube and embed the video so it plays in the site?
If you want to continue improving the site, I would recommend market research to properly understand what your users want and how you can optimise the site. (I work for a company that offers this, but there are many others too! http://www.virtualsurveys.com/expertise/website.)
