Mike - The A9 was too scary to attempt it - Ben was a bit peeved about that but there you go.

Re: Edinburgh International Cross Country, Sat 9th Jan
Fantastic days racing. Grippy snow and no wind - I haven't been warmer at this thing before. The 4k was one of the best races I've ever seen (commentary in the field was pretty pishiobury park too).
Scotia (in the white cap) managed to blag an entry on the day
Good effort, always clear of Murray. The interdistricts have most of the best Scottish runners, and Murray and Scott are both right up there, also beating several invited athletes.
Probably others I missed, but also good runs by INTs Chris and Matthew Galloway in their respective age group interdistrict races.
Was Ben an individual, or meant to be on a North District team? I didn't see any North runners in the open (there were some in the kids) - maybe fat Brendan managed to get rid of them?
Still trying to figure out whether "Dobrisky's got and arse like Yvette" was meant to be a compliment.

Congrats to Scott, Murray and to Hector.
And to FVO's Catriona Buchanan, 24th of 44 in the women's race, nice one!

But it was still just running circles around a bit of grass with a couple of slopes and a tiny stream - Orienteering is just so much more interesting - in fact the course of my school XC was far more interesting.
[and yes the commentary was not good - clearly the winner was a protoge of cram/foster and as for edwards question of Bekele - he might as just as well have said "why were you so crap today ?"]

They don't even get the grass, slopes and streams in the most prestigious running events. In the recent events which surely even you watched and got excited about (didn't everybody?) they didn't get the circles either - not only that, but pretty poor VFM travelling thousands of miles for 9 and a bit seconds of competition.

Running in the 4K race (BBC 1 1300) this Sat (8th) is Moravian's Ben Livesey in his RAF vest - just back home from 4 months of non-ideal race prep working nights in Afghanistan... a 400 metre circuit round the camp gets tedious at the best of times! Steve Vernon, BOF's "incresing participation" man is also running. Can't spot any other orienteers in te start list at the mo.
Give them a shout if you happen to be going along to watch.

Excellent run by Murray - scalped a few of the GB team by the look of it!
Earlier, two impressive runs by Ewan McMillan (MAROC) and Alex Carcas (INT) coming second in Inter-district U13 and junior open races behind, um, much bigger boys. Reminded me of a young Scott Fraser (so no pressure there lads...).

Yes but real running, off the carpet and on telly. With some press coverage of Netball this week, it's been pretty good going for sports not invited to next year's fete. Celebrate any terrain sport getting on the box - there is life outwith Meadowbank.

Also note Sam Burgess - in U17 boys - was in Aboyne team at World Schools in Scotland. Gave up O to concentrate on swimming, running, cycling.......... etc! Seriously quick and getting better every year. We'll try to tempt him back to O some time.
