- The colour award standards for the more difficult (blue, brown etc) courses - would you aim for/claim such an award? - evidence suggests very few do the latter.
- Competition in the form of local/regional leagues. Though that's for your club/region to rectify if they don't exist.
But if that's not enough, and people feel there is a need for another incentive for the experienced orienteer for whatever reasons, then development committee would be interested to hear your ideas.
Ranking list - yes that is fine, but as a mediocre orienteer who is unlikely to even get within the top 50 of just my age class - it doesn't give me much of an achievable incentive. Perhaps when more events are ranking events it might be more of an incentive. It it interesting to view the ranking list for my own club, but it would be much better to be able to view it on a regional basis too.
Colour coded awards - yes I have claimed these, and am immensely proud of achieving my blue badge - but that is realistically as far as I go - I am unlikely to get my brown badge (as an overweight W45), so no further incentives there. I did complete a brown course once and was very happy not to be last! I really liked the old badge scheme and managed to achieve a silver award as W40 - and it would have been an achievable goal to try to get silver as W45.
Yes I guess the regional league does give my some incentive, and I have been pipped to the post for class winner for the last 3 years, so okay I have some incentive for next year. However the field of W45 at the regional league event is pretty small.
I did send my thoughts to the development committee last year when this idea was first mooted and got no response.
