excerpt from UK Sport Board meeting minutes from June 2010:
"Orienteering/Waterskiing
Funding to these two sports is being phased out over the 2009-13 cycle
as agreed in 2005 and again in 2008. At the time it was noted that
these two sports have a track record of medal success at World level
and they continue to do so. It was also noted in 2008 that post 2012 it
was possible that non-Olympic sports may be a higher priority. It was
agreed that these awards should be reviewed again at the December
Board meeting alongside the Annual Review. In advance, Members will
need to consider whether UK Sport’s focus post 2012 should include
significant non-Olympic sports. Chair thought that this is best addressed
by continuing the discussions on Life after London and it was agreed
that the Board away day should be used to discuss this."
Anyone know anything about "Life after London"?
It might be worth individuals contacting Sue Campbell (head of UK sport) reminding her that orienteering is still existing and doing pretty well at all levels in UK.

Life after London?
The London olympics is going to bankrupt everybody, and we won't even have a stadium to show for it.
What a joke.

Knew this was going to happen. DDR style willy waving at the big village fete takes priority over everything. If you are another sport - tough.

From UK Sport Annual Review 2009
Chief Executive John Steele also outlines his vision for the future and explains that whilst UK Sport remains focused on achieving the goals set for London in 2012 it is also taking steps to prepare for life after the Games have ended.
“We remain very conscious of the fact that the sporting world does not come to an end in September 2012. Increasingly our minds are turning towards the post-Games period and ensuring an appropriate legacy”, said Steele. “This is the case with our significant funding support for Development level athletes in sports and with our highly successful ongoing Talent ID programmes already targeting potential athletes for both Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and beyond. During 2009 we instigated a project – Life After London – that is looking to highlight our collective ambitions for high performance sport in the UK in the years to come.”
...It seems that they are still looking for talented athletes in "Olympic" sports only, and when they find them they do chuck loads of money at them, unlike the scraps that non-Olympic sports have to fight for

It's been really tough, nothing has been coming into my bank account because athletes' performance finance finished in July," Laybourne said.
"I've had to pay for myself to travel to places like Poland, there's been no support and that's the hardest thing.
"I had a call on Monday from a team in Holland and then on Tuesday there was nothing and my agent told me to 'hang in there'. That's all I can do at the moment.
They have agents?
