Here is the news I am sure you all have been waiting for!

The Edinburgh University Orienteering Club Burns Weekend has been finalised for the 22-23/1/11.

The event will take a similar format to the previous three years...

Saturday - Urban race using an extended city map including brand NEW orienteering unexperienced at any previous city race.

Social - Evening of Burns celebration including traditional ceilidh.

Sunday - SoSol event on Holyrood Park (Arthur's seat) - physically and technically demanding orienteering in the city centre.

The Edinburgh University Orienteering Club Burns Weekend has been finalised for the 22-23/1/11.

Didn't we know the date already? I think the bit we're waiting for is to know that the city race is the first round of the Nopesport Urban League. I reckon that's about as likely as Russia being given the World Cup

Well we don't yet know about the Nopesport urban league, but it HAS been decided that this is the first event in the new UK Masters Cup that has been discussed elsewhere.

If you wish to get points at this event for the league you will need to enter the designated course for the age class you wish to compete in.

I suspect that an announcement would have been made on the BOF site by now had the weather been more normal.

Er, Mharky, Burns weekend (both the O-fest and the Bard's birthday) is January 22-23.

Obviously, being Scottish, you knew that

And the street race and the DB relay don't clash, one starts at 10, the other is starts from 1, its about an hours drive between them, I'll leave you to do the sums.

I'm guessing the mix up was because in the past our 'February' (presumably it used to be in January before we held our competition weekend?) training weekend was known as Burns weekend.

So yes the Burns competition weekend is 22/23rd January but our club February 'Burns' training weekend (now more commonly known as Pre-BUCS training weekend) is 26/27th February.

People who have been in the club for a little longer than the rest of us perhaps still go by the old names!

From next year (2011) that February week will be Edinburgh's "Innovative Learning Week". Last month I was roundly ridiculed for even suggesting you student types might dιbber off for sports camps then... surely it couldn't happen!
