At its recent meeting in Helsinki, the IOF Council appointed Great Britain organiser of the World Trail Orienteering Championships 2012.

Which seems to say (note that I speak no norwegian, but german helps a bit I think):

An interesting translation...

How many trail-o events do we get in the UK in a season. I've only heard about them at JK and British. I would go, but they often seem very difficult to do both foot-o and trail-o at the same championships.

The JK and the British are about the extent of it at the moment. The Trail-O events are normally in the afternoon - so this year at the British I was able to do both.

At next year's JK, the Trail-O starts are from 1pm - 4.30pm, I believe.

And the date of the World Champs will be Monday 6th June to Friday 10th June 2012.

Regarding Trail-O in UK:

The JK has Temp-O (speed Trail-O, timed controls only and two individual days. The British Champs is a single day event, often accompanied by another possibility for trail-o the day before or after, the irish champs are often held in NI, along with the NI champs (which conversely are sometimes held in the South). That is likely to be a year's worth of top quality Trail-O (unlike the 20-30 that our scandinavian cousins get to).

There are other introductory events put on by local proponents (several recently in YHOA by the Roberts I believe).

i.e. although we have had pretty good performances in World and European champs over the years, we don't really have that many events. This is why it is important that we try our best to enable people to compete in both Foot-O and Trail-O on the same day whenever possible.

The more people we have that participate, the more people we have who might be able to help put on events.

The 2011 JK website doesn't mention a TempO event - normally Friday with the Sprint event - but I assume there will be one. Will it be possible to do both SprintO and TempO events . . . . ?
