Re: Sprint Jamboree at Daresbury Laboratory and Firs
Is it true that Daresbury are reopening their synchrotron (closed 2008) for an additional heat, with extra points awarded for acceleration and for interesting collisions?

Re: Sprint Jamboree at Daresbury Laboratory and Firs
Thanks for the comments andypat.
Final details for this event are now on the web (see below)
Most of you will manage a full lap of the synchrotron (you couldn't do that at CERN) buidling, gasp at what was once one of the world's largest vertical Van der Graaff generators, admire the Bridgewater Canal, all within a mile or so of where Lewis Caroll was born.
Enough tourist chat, what about the event?
I am happy with the level of event - it is supposed to be a fun-filled event. Each of the 5 races you do will be totally different; the main map is as used for the British Trail-O Champs last year and it is far too small for a Regional event.
Final details are on

{as are the Chester event ones)
I hope folks can come along

Good luck with your Sprint Jamboree, John. I couldn't even work out the area standing still!

I'm almost more excited about this than about Venice next weekend. Here's hoping the weather stays as good as forecast

Last time I was at Daresbury laboratories was in the 70's when an annual scout canoe race used to start there. The mass start was packed; a real fight for paddle-room in the water. Race out towards Preston Brook, then turn before the tunnel and all the way back to Warrington Canoe Club at Grappenhall.

I haven't canoed the 10km to work, but I have XC skied there - not much scope for a Ski-O Sprint event though.

Yes great value day at at £5.00 each. Enjoyed the various sprints. Really enjoyed the woodland in the afternoon. Got me thinking harder about contours + map features and no time to relax between controls.
Brain found it hard when we switched from woodland back to a bit of urban and then back to woodland, kept me on my toes!
Will you be having a similar event next year?

Yes, great fun, thanks!
Err, no. But if it doesn't clash with Venice, I'd certainly come back for more.

I dunno... £15 for 400miles of travel, £5 entry fee for five races - Daresbury was certainly better value for money than Venice

In terms of pure fun, definitely one of the best events I have been to for a long time - huge thanks to all involved. More days out like this please - surely there must be tiny areas elsewhere in the country that would be ideal for similar formats.

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday. I'm sure we could do a very similar event in Sheffield next summer...

Thanks for all kind comments guys. Great job from Bob doing all the IT so we had fast results for the Finals (too fast - I was still busy transferring SI boxes from one venue to the next) and v.fast results and routegadget on the web.
