BOF road shows

OKay despite it's the day before I have to catch a ridiculously early flight to Italy I have decided to put my money where my mouth is and attend the West Mids road show even though it is about as far away from me in the West Mids as it is possible to get.

so i press the link in the BOF article and compose my e-mail response only for this to happen:

I've actually managed to register for that exact roadshow (Alan Higgs Centre Coventry) so it was working at some point.

that looks a lot like a problem with your outgoing mail server rather BOF email (i.e. I don't think the message ever got to BOF)
have you had to (/been asked to) change anything with your mail settings recently?

Don't mock manned road crossing - on Sunday my controller insisted on one due to visibilty issues - I spent a few minutes observing and appreciate that his decision was correct. He did allow me though to use a water-splash when a bridge collapsed just before the event. The happy (though muddy) smiles of the whites and yellows shows that it was both fun and appreciated.

It cant be just me, or does anyone else think these Roadshows are a total waste of British Orienteering / members money?
Just how much is their tour of Britain, inclusing Northern Ireland, costing; travel, hotels, hiring various Halls, including RAF Duxford!?
I'll go along for the 'free' sandwiches I think.
The information I think we could all get from the website, or distributed with the glossy magazine. If members want further information I am sure they have a telephone.

I'm guessing they've hired a small to medium sized room in the conference centre rather than the concorde aircraft hanger.

No (and even if it was, so what?). Anyway we're not returning to a 4-tier scheme - the 'old' system was a 5-tier scheme, and there are significant differences.

So has anyone been to these? What goes on? How long do they last? Is it worth going?

I went along last night. It went on just past 10pm and I believe that the one on Tuesday night finished at a similar time.

A reasonable amount of the information presented will be familiar to people who follow the news items on the British Orienteering website and committee minutes. What was useful to me was to see which bits were being stressed and presented as important.

Preliminary recommendations from the competition review were shown and I am generally in support of what is being suggested.

We were also told about the bad news of the new Forestry Commission agreement - basically that events on FC land will incur greater costs.

Effectively for events/races with over 20 people:

£75 non-refundable booking fee
PLUS £3.00 per competitor for each competitor over the number
of 50 (i.e. 100 runners will cost £225, 200 will cost £525 )

The FC permission application says that the full agreement is on the BOF Website.

Perhaps someone in the know can tell me where -- a (slow) search of the site gives me 2 relevant references in the April and July board minutes and nothing else.
The agreement came into effect on 1st September 2010.
