Eligibility

Can't find it now but sure I read recently a post about eligibility for competing on embargoed areas, the up-coming Compassport Cup as an example. I would imagine that most of the runners in SYO and Shuoc know Burbage like the back of their hands yet will be competing for their various clubs on the day. This is always going to be a problem for the host club so why have a club hosting who has a high chance of winning? As for the student club, do their home clubs not think people are aware of the unis the students attend
Another thing I noticed recently was mappers competing competitively on their own maps. I suppose it doesn't matter unless there's points involved such as in CS Cup, Nopesport league etc. Any thoughts?

RS, I suspect you'll find hosting the CSC will actually work against SYO as a lot of their 'stars' are ineligible and won't be running because they chose to train on the embargoed area instead of competing. I imagine they'll probably lose a few others who will be helping stage the event instead of running. Ok, they'll probably still win it, but it won't be because of knowing the area. I don't really see what your point is - it's been embargoed, so most eligible students will hardly have ever orienteered on it.

What I'm trying to say is that I think it is against SYO as they are the hosts and it would be very obvious if their stars counted but other clubs will run their 'stars' who have been on the area ( think I read that even dog walking gives an unfair advantage). Can't find the post where I read about embargoes and eligibility, but believe it was 'lifted' from SYO website - could be wrong though. In no way am I denegrating SYO, far from it, I am empathising with their situation.
As for mappers, just noticed Barry's article in CompasSport about Warwick and the mapper is on the start list. Don't know if he's non-comp though

According to the guidelines if it's two years since he drew the map he's eligible to run

Just as an aside the mapper of this year's WMOC Sprint event ran competitively -
map is dated Apr 2010 - didn't hear of any objections to him running!

Oh boo hoo. I know the area like the back of my hand, but I'm still running. Bite me. It's a fairly easy area and I'll do just as well/badly as if it was on a hypothetical undiscovered unmapped moorland right next to it. What do you suggest? These 'stars' you talk about turn around to their clubs and say, oh no sorry we're not going to run for you in this event even though it's perfectly within the rules and I haven't orienteered there for over 2 years. Don't think that would go down very well. It's definitely not the stars faults. Should BOF do something about it? All I can think that they can do is insist it's held on a virgin piece of terrain (which in England usually means tiny and tinpot). No, that would be silly - why start getting so high and mighty about the bloody CSC when the British Champs and JK are almost always on areas that have been used many times before.

Hehe oops got in a bit of a public boo there! I guess titling the thread 'elibility' riled me slightly as there's no question anyone ineligible will be running the CSC (the rules are quite clear). I just can't see how BOF can practically get round the fact that some people are going to know the area fairly well without coming up with some hard to define guidelines on who can and can't host the event, which would probably end up forcing fairly pants terrain to be used. And would it make any difference to the outcome anyway?

Oh the embarrassment of running on your own map....

There is the inevitable mess up in not hitting controls first time and then you get to spot lots of errors.
