There should be a student discount - I'll ask the organiser to change the Fabian4 set-up.

You can now fly around the City of London, in genuine 3D (better than Google Earth!) by going here: http://m.yell.com/02Wqq6
This may just be the coolest thing you've ever seen.

Hah Scott - like your style!
I've got a mate who's 42 and doing a MBA by distance learning, he earns about twice as much as me and uses his student card to get a discount into the football - cheeky monkey!
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

Re: London City Race
What's the best London station for the event centre? Want to book trains now and couldn't find info on website. (though I may not have been looking very well...)
Managed to miss the last 2 years due to pre-semester tour, but with the change in weekend hoping a fair few of us can make it down.

Re: London City Race
Nearest mainline station is London Bridge
Nearest underground London Bridge as well
Note that Blackfriars station is closed at weekends due to major redevelopment. Thameslink will not be running through the central section at the weekend for the same reason
Essentially the same classes as last year but we are splitting W40+ and M55+ onto different courses because running times are too far different. Also providing a Novices course for Men/Women

Re: London City Race
There are now further details available about LOK's race to complement the City, on Hampstead Heath on the Sunday, hoping to see lots of people stay down and do the double. Also, fully recommend the Sunday lunch at the Garden Gate pub, just to the South of the Heath.
Details:
London Orienteering Klubb offers a contrast to complete your weekend as you navigate through the delightful woods and open parkland of Hampstead Heath, offering iconic views of London.
Don't be fooled, although it is situated within a famous London suburb and easily accessible by public transport, this area offers a mix of terrain and hills with a complex path network providing a different challenge for your navigation skills.
Transport: Overground to Hampstead Heath - 5mins walk (check for engineering work), or Underground to Belsize Park on the Northern Line (9 min from King's Cross St Pancras) - 15mins walk
Parking: East Heath Car Park (Pay & Display), East Heath Road, Hampstead, London NW5 (TQ272859 / NW3 1TH) or free parking in local side roads (if early)
Courses: Approximately lengths/categories as for the City Race. See flyer link below for full details.
Timing: SI electronic punching will be used.
Map: 1:10000 with 5 metre contours, on waterproof paper with preprinted courses.
Entry: adults £5 (BOF) or £7 (non-BOF), juniors/students £2. SI hire: £1. No pre-entry - just turn up and enter on the day.
Registration: 0930 to 1130
Start Times: 1000 to 1200. Start and finish are two minutes from the car park. Courses close at 1400.
Facilities: Public toilets 5 minutes away. Squash/water provided at finish.
Full details on the flyer here (PDF).

Re: London City Race
Very sad we can't stay, as committed to own club's event on the Sunday, but we thoroughly enjoyed the last London City-Hampstead Heath combination 2 years ago, which provided one of the best weekend's orienteering of the year. I particularly remember both courses as being excellent examples of how events should be planned.

Re: London City Race
In another thread,
Good to see such huge numbers (over 600) have entered the London race, and I reckon at least 60 of them are IND which suggests they may be new to the sport or just giving it a try.

Re: London City Race
There were several thousand people practicing today, wandering around with photocopied pages of A-Z's. At first I thought it was a flashmob urban O race, then I remembered that London Underground were on stike..........
Maybe...

I presume urban races don't have embargos, or is this another controllers conundrum for Compass Sport

Normally the embargo only applies once the controls go out (i.e. the morning of the event) and even then there has to be an approved way of walking to the assembly which is often not on the edge of the embargoed area.
